Description
A gift for my good friend ~Nekomarunosuke of his sparrow character, Kureha. It's also another piece for my 10 Anthro Challenge. Yep, my very first avian anthro!I used *robertsloan2 's How to Draw a Bird's Wing tutorial to help with the wings. I still have a long way to go with both wings and feathers, but this is my best attempt yet! Kureha is a sparrow, so I figured her wings would be pretty small. I doubt she'd fly too well but I imagine she'd jump and glide way better than other creatures for having them.
This thing took so long to ink. T__T I think this is my most time-consuming piece so far. Even coloring took way longer than usual. I suck at water and rocks, but I like the cherry blossoms. Definitely won't be trying that texture on rocks again!
Sakura Pigma Microns, Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, Col-Erase colored pencils (sketching only), Prismacolor markers.

Good point, Telem-Kam, thank you. Do you think it would have helped if the details on the feathers were in a lighter brown, so they'd be a little more subtle?

I think the water is just fine.
Yah, feathers can be the most time consuming thing around. It is frustrating for me. Hey, it is nice to see you try it in your own style. Great job!

Aw, thanks, Eclipsis! The feathers took forever to ink and also to color, since I did a lot of color mixing on them. The wing feathers have an undercoat of Cream, with Light Tan, Sienna Brown, Dark Brown, Dark Umber, and Black mixed in while wet. The Cream hardly shows in the finished product, but makes the wings look so much better and more vibrant than the tail, which doesn't have any Cream in it.

That's one mean-looking sparrow! I like how you did the feathers. Bird anthros are hard because their arms are wings: I like how you handled that as a lot of people give them wings and arms or just arms and no wings. The background is nice too, especially the blossoms.

Thanks so much, my friend. I personally go for the combination wing/arm in my anthro avian interpretation to be more true to the anatomy of the real animal, though the "arms AND wings" interpretation is easier to draw. The backdrop is actually a scene that this character's creator has drawn several of his characters in. I'm not sure I'd have come up with such a good backdrop idea on my own.

Wow, really cool... ^^ that's something like I've imagined a bird anthro to look like, too and you did her really great... The feathers looks really good :3 I really like the way the brown colors vary on them.. You've really put down detail in the outlining with all those blossoms and on the feathers, for example :] and the background is great
I really like the colors in it and how you did the water behind her :3 but in the waterfall you should maybe try to have some more lighter areas in it, since the sun reflects in the water and makes it look brighter, and often teh water hits some rocks on the way down and get some air under it, or... x] I'm not god at explaining, but if I remeber it right it makes the water look whiter xP great job anyways, as usual ^^

Thanks for another awesome and helpful comment. I was so lost on the waterfall without any references and I'm always bad with drawing water, so I really appreciate the good input on that part! My waterfall looks like a mutated ribbon.
Again, thanks a ton for the tips on the waterfall! Hopefully my next waterfall will come out a lot better.

It never fails to amaze me how much detail you put into things, like the feathers and even the BG flowers. It comes off really well. Only thing I might add though is the fist seems off for some reason I cant place ><;
And again, awesome colors!

Thanks a ton for the kind and helpful input. Personally, I think the fist is off because those claws wouldn't fit in there. >> I can't even fit my little human fingernails into a tight fist like that!

You know, you're quite right on that! And avians have really big claws! And sharp! And no problem. *smiles*

Yes, the thing I love most about thiss piece, are defenetly the cherry blossoms! They look so cool!
And seeing a bird anthro in your style is really interesting, as well.^^ the feathers looks really cool, but the connection between the arms and the feathers looks a bit weird... I personally wouldn't have drawn a line between the end of the rm, and the beginning of the feathers. it looks a like they would vanish behind the arm.^^
But if you would let the arm float into the wings a little, it would look a little more realistic.^^ ( Okey, again, it#s very hard to explain, what I mean... )
But apart from that, it's a wonderful piece! Well done!

Oooh, I get what you're saying. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely do that next time. I just wish I'd thought to do that on this, but it's too late now.
Thanks so much, Tabby.
