Description
Please full view. It's Thair, my Winter kitty. Haven't seen him for a while, eh?
I spent about ten times as long on the feathers this time, and though those darned things took longer than the rest of the piece put together, I'm happy with them. I just wish his one wing hadn't gone past the page. =/ Kinda throws off my composition. I also wish I'd just done clouds and not the weird-looking crystal silhouettes. Though I do like the contrast they offer.
Sakura Pigma Micron, Prismacolor markers.
Thair (c) me, Peachfuzz .

so neat. I reallly like the colors of this. I love compairing new work to oldwork! Great character design, though i think in the older version this character's pose is more dynamic. Still, i'm very fond with the color scheme of this one.
Feathers are a pain. You did a great job on them here.

Just wanted to add I love the little pale pink curls that connect the wings to the body, they are very sweet.

I'm sorry, there's no way I can full-view the 2.5 MB file here at home! And the computer I use at work has got some network problems, so there's no net there either. I'll just have to use my imagination.
I actually really like the crystal silhouettes, they add a cool geometric feel. I thought the snow was clouds at first- but snow is hard to do.
The colours in the wing feathers are lovely as well. It goes *beautifully* with the really well-done background gradient. Great colour choices throughout!

Those are clouds. Guess I need to work on my textures!
Glad you enjoyed the piece, though! Thank you! Even if the full-view isn't working for ya. I started saving things in PNG file format, so they take longer to load now than they used to (Bigger file size). If you ever get the chance, do check out the full view, though! Looks so much better, and less dull.

Oh, wow, those feathers look so awesome! You did really great on those. The pose I really like, too, and oh, I just noticed the awesome blend and transition in colour on the end of the tail, that's beautiful! Very nice work!

Yay, awesome!! Out of curiousity, is he as big as a snowflake or a regular sized kitty?
π: 0 β©: 1
Peachfuzz In reply to CrazySkye [2006-11-14 05:30:01 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, Skye!
Thair is actually quite big, built like a lion but bigger than one. I draw him with the same anatomy as a small kitty and never by anything recognizable for size reference, so I can't expect anybody to automatically be able to tell that...

Thank you! I didn't want his blue body to sink into a blue background, or his wings to get lost in a straight pink, so I attacked with dull pinks and grays for the backdrop.

Wow! This time you've done the feathers really well! It's an improvement! And the way they are spreat looks really beautiful. But I doubt that this kitty would ever be able to fly in reality, because the wings are spread aside. But this doesn't matter too much. The composition of the feathers exuses it!
Great!
π: 0 β©: 1
Peachfuzz In reply to Tabby-chan [2006-11-11 16:33:40 +0000 UTC]
I figure if the kitty can be blue and pink, then realistic wings are the least of my problems. Actually, I like the fanciful look of them even though he wouldn't be able to fly if they were real. I guess Thair runs on magic, not aerodynamics.
Thanks for the input, Tabby. I tried something new with the feathers and I'm glad to hear that it worked!

Hes so adorable! Love the pose ehre too and hmmmmm, this will help greatly! I have to rework my half of our trade btw. I kinda ended up drawing his wings upside down... and not realizing it til after I inked it. *laughs* S you'll get a blooper along with my half when Im finished :3

Peachfuzz In reply to siriusstar13 [2006-11-11 05:14:25 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! But... Upside down? I'm actually kinda interested in seeing that!
It's actually my fault for not making a decent ref or any new art of Thair for so long. You're not the first person I've had try to draw him whose interpreted my ambiguous old drawing wrong, it's apparent that I didn't express my idea well. I'm surprised that anybody was able to tell that those flat blobs were feathers! One poor person had to redo theirs because the crappy animal anatomy on that old one tricked them into thinking he was anthro...
I'll get to my half as soon as I can.

*laughs* Youll see it, I just cant believe I didnt realize it until I had inked it! *laughs*
No worries, its all set now I was wondering on his tail when I saw the ref, thats the only part that confused me a bit if it was fur or feathers. *nodders*
And wow, poor guy ><;;;
But yes, no worries, take your time Ill prolly have mine up in a few days. Cant color at work *laughs*

The weather's been nice here, hasn't it? I'm up in the mountains and it's even snowed a bit so far! What a treat!
Thanks, SnoCat. He's a big kitty though, about as tall as me! He's built like a big blue and pink lion. But he'll always be my Winter kitty.
He's been with me for years, since my second drawing book along with the other three seasonal creatures.

It is so great to have "characters" which you've drawn for years and years...there are a few old friends which I draw, too.
Yeah...we're to perform in Albany tomorrow night--and there's this big old wind storm coming...we may be performing by candlelight...and dodging trees on the way home.
At least our house sitter won't have to worry about a lot of trees around our house...I remember one time Alan and I went off to dinner--even when the couple we were to go with canceled...
When we came back, two big old cedar trees had fallen onto the house, and exactly where our van would have been, if we hadn't gone out to dinner anyhow...
One of those glorious coincidences!!!
(Grin)
Have a wonderful weekend--I hope where you are the wind doesn't get too bad.
Take care!

I'm more likely to get buried in snow! It snowed most of the night, there's a good few inches on the ground.

Ah, I am SO envious!!! I heard the snow levels are going to come on down...
There's a big windstorm coming on Sunday--we'll be over in Albany. (sigh) There's a natural funnel from the sea, through the mountains--to Albany. The last windstorm wasn't so good for them...I'm hoping they'll postpone the dinner theater...if not, ah, well--the show must go on, eh?!
(Grin)
I do envy you your snowfall, my'dear! (sigh) Oh, for snow...let it be THIS YEAR!!!

We'll get a lot of snow up here in the mountains- My college is over 5,000 feet elevation! It rarely snowed in the Rogue Valley, though. Non-mountainous Oregon isn't big on snow.
