Description "I write about things like spouse abuse, drugs, alcoholism, and other things I dislike."
Hating the small arse text so much.

To quote a line from here

"I have and still do occasionally write stories with abusive relationships and I'm against those strongly too. Some people are dedicated to going outside what is deemed "normal" and write about real or idealogically sensitive things. I do it with my writing -not all of which is posted at the moment or even will be posted up on DA- if we limit ourselves to only what we are used to we never try new things or push ourselves to new limits. I hate rape, abusive relationships, and a bunch of other things but I'm mature enough to bite the bullet and at least attempt new things."

So yeah, I'm all for having characters with big flaws like addictions or bad romances if it isn't overdone and actually builds onto their personality and helps shape them too.

Not saying that people should be shoved far outside of their security zone, just saying that they should occasionally try things not normally attempted or worked on.

I look back on some of my OCs' backgrounds, some are anything but G-rated. One suffered a background of being raped and almost murdered. Another (creepypasta OC) went through covert sexual abuse, and near-reproductive coercion, and eventually became a killer. Heck, another is rather a vigilante-kind of killer. I also have 2 sibling OCs that have engaged in recreational drug use, but is set for 60's-70's era anyway. Another is a band member that still has mental health-related battles, therefore has underground temptation.

Its only bad if its glorified. However, in this case, if its meant to spread a message, then its alright.

Not necessarily all of those things, but I love to write about characters that have different or even opposite values than me. Is funnier to move them, and I think it help you to open your mind (But in my case is just because writing about things that aren't part of me is funnier, as I don't change ideas so easily.

My friend's OCs are way more realistic than mine, like, one of his OCs was abused, and he turned to alcohol meanwhile, my OCs are like

WOAH LOOK HE AN ALIEN LOOK AT HIM GO NYYOOM

My oc had an abusive father, he and many other "bad times" she had as a kid-teen are the reasons she is often very paranoid and moody around people, she only trust her husband, mother and close friends.

I am writing an original project which has things such as breakdown of society, corruption, total control, discrimination against NEETS, media control, lack of security and brainwashing by the rich. But it is set in 23rd Century Britain though. In it, people not in education, employment and training are considered "Second Class Citizens".

Many of my stories feature things such as racism, religious intolerance, religious fundamentalism, abusive parents, depression, extreme psychological abuse, and the negative effects of celebrity lifestyles. I have a World War II story that includes references to pro-Nazi soldiers in Croatia gouging out eyes, slitting throats, cutting off women's breasts, and skinning people. I don't support any of this kind of behavior. I'm including this because it's history and I don't believe in sugarcoating tragedies.

The main character in my story's an alcoholic. I've seen it happen first hand with a close friend of mine and one of my uncles, so it's not like I lack knowledge on it.

I'm writing a fanfiction where this girl is brutally bullied, tortured and neglected by her mother, kills her classmates and mother out of revenge, along with them she cuts off the hands of the man who she thought loved her but suddenly blinded her on purpose so she also steals his eye, then joins and evil organzation, falls in love with a man looks like shark, is forced to kill one of the only people showed her any kindness, then commits suicide only to get revived. Her karma really sucks.

I'm writing a story where my main character was sexually abused by her father. She's only three. There are so many .... reactions, results, effects of sexual abuse on someone so young, and I'm just a teenager, but I've read extensively on this subject, realistic accounts, psychological help pages like DID, separation anxiety, attachment disorders, when the kids are angry or totally doll-like (etc.) online, as well as true-life accounts in order to get the feel. I'm not saying mine is the most accurate, but I think it's fair to say that it's way better than people who write "Argh I'm angry, my Dad hit me, so that's enough excuse for my character to act like a cold-hearted bitch". :/

Sounds much better than most people's already. Research and thorough reading up on subjects is one of the least done things by some writers.
Lack of knowledge can really cripple a story when such subjects aren't elaborated enough. It's always nice when reasonable logic is used.

Makes things more believable. Not characters that can fart rainbows, live forever or pitch a perfect game at Fenway Park, but people with real problems or personality quirks. (I have characters doing things I STRONGLY disapprove of....but I still love them. I have to take them, the bad with the good. Just like real people. )
