The thumbnail from a distance appeared to be a landscape of a lake with trees. Keeping that in mind, the full size image is more interesting for me.

The veins in the centre dominate the frame... reminds me of an article I read in National Geographic, about calligraphic patterns on egg shells and how they are created... of course they also communicate to me as the workings of the heart... and how everything seems to be falling over backwards, in deep, unknown waters.

for me the best part is the middle... looks like sunlight shining through water, or maybe in a cave or something. I love the atmophericness (huh?) and texture. definitely on of your best pieces so far!

I absolutely love the blending you did with the soft yellow and blues in the middle. It creates an alluring quality for me. I can get a little sense of the texture is like from the little glare, very nice!! Beautiful piece, Peggy, beautiful!

Yeah, that is why I am still not happy with this shot...the glare. I need to just invest in a lighting kit, or have my works scanned.

Thanks for checking it out!

I love the strata going through the lower middle, did you do that with a painting knife?

Oh, apparently Jupiter was hit by an Earth - sized object recently; just happened to hear it on NPR

peggymintun In reply to joeyv7 [2009-07-21 23:52:20 +0000 UTC]

Weirdness, I saw that, too!

No knives on this one...the paint is too liquid. I use tissues and plastic. The drying time makes a difference, as well.

And you achieve an incredible sense of texture in this work, a very difficult thing to do with watercolor in my experience. Bravo again.

I forgot to add the liquid acrylic to the medium, so it is a mix of the two. I did not use water, though sometimes I do to get a different effect...I rarely use brushes. I also get slightly different results depending on the type of board that I use. I always add varnish at the end whether it is on board or paper-that seems to bring out details in the paint that are flat otherwise. I have developed a technique for this over the past 2 years...I may video tape it some day.

Thanks for the comments and for faving it!

BRipin In reply to peggymintun [2009-07-18 13:36:51 +0000 UTC]

By not using water do you mean that you use watercolor straight out of the tube? And what experiences do you have on boards? I presume that you use the varnish after the piece is finished, as an overcoat glaze - or do you mix in into the paint? Indeed your should do a video or tutorial - for whatever your are doing, it is working wonderfully for you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

peggymintun In reply to BRipin [2009-07-22 00:15:23 +0000 UTC]

No tubes...all liquid.

I love the boards. They are what I use mostly. I have tried out many different textures and like each of them for different reasons.

Yes, the only think I add post varnish is any gold of sliver. It does not hold up with the varnish I use. It either breaks down and smears, or looks tarnished.

Thanks!
