Description

My final group of Stone Age People! Find Part 1 here: fav.me/dbzyian and Part 2 here: fav.me/dc1xc8j

Now there are two characters in this drawing you already know but since I drew them both originally in the context of this series I thought it would only be fair to include them here.

The first one is one you already know from the Stone Age 101 series. She is a clan leader from the Mondsee culture as indicated by both the cup she is holding as well as the "Mondsee Sun" on her dress. The gold plates as well as her bangles are inspired by the Stollhof deposit - Austrias oldest known gold items. The woman is one of three characters in the series who already have a defined role in the story I am writing.

The man next to her you already know from two previous drawings as well. Its Γ–tzi who in my story is called Arramanaju and a clan leader of the Remedello culture. His clothing is based on a reconstruction from the South Tyrol Archaeology Museum which in turn is based on the so called "Statuen Menhire". These are humanoid stone statues often shown with iconographic symbols like the characteristic Remedello Daggers or copper axes and are thought to depict the garb of a clan leader.

Next is Ultzuchisura, whom you already know very well. In the story she is a copper prospector (which makes her somewhat of a proto-geologist). As such she is equipped with a bow and arrow for self-defense and for getting food on her presumably very long expeditions. The pearls in her hair are also a nod to her profession as Azurite is a common copper mineral in the Tyrolean Alps.

And finally, a miner. Now first of all Yes, I know he should not be able to carry soooo many rocks... but I was so proud of how pretty they turned out that I left them in In the Neolithic mining would have been done either by digging pits or by tunneling into mountains. A method that was used was fire setting. Large fires would be lit at the backwalls of tunnels to destabilize the minerals in the rock to break it with large hammers. A common tool for mining where axes made from antlers like the one shown here. The clothing and backpack of my miner are slightly anachronistic since they are largely based on actual findings from the salt mines of Hallstatt which are around 2000 years younger than the characters in my story.

Why Stone Age if there is bronze?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pelycosaur24 In reply to PapierowySzczur [2018-03-05 17:44:49 +0000 UTC]

There is no Bronze yet, only copper. The copper age is generally classified by archeologists to be still part of the Neolithic - the scientific term "Calcolithic" Copper-Stone Age reflcets this

...Wait a minute. Would there really have been cleanshaven men in the Stone Age?

I’d like to read your story, though. Is it on your gallery somewhere?

Yeah... to be honest I thought the exact same thing XD I know that the first razors are from the Bronze Age... I must do some research wether there are other methods to get rid of beards...

I am glad you are interested in reading the story - so far I have written 3 Episodes (altough the Stone age part will appear around episode 6) I think I will start uploading the stories once I finished the first 4 Episodes (these I consider the first "series" which established the basic premise)

Thank you! Yes to be honest that is one of my favorite facial designes I have ever drawn. I also took a lot of inspiration from Tyrolean people I know.
