Murphy's wrong - it would actually only be the second most expensive cat theft in history. I wanted to draw Lyta with long hair for some reason, so I decided to do this while it's relevant (since she's in the military she can probably still get a haircut at any time, but maybe they can't quite style it the way she likes).

So the regulations for ladies hair in the Navy/Marine Corps (and I assume the Air Force is similar) are - or were recently - that it has to either be short, or long enough that it can be completely pulled back and tied up. I suspect her normal style is in fact not short enough, since her bangs could end up covering her eyes under a helmet. But longer hair could pass, I just needed her to set up the punchline.
All that being said, she's had a consistent look since I first drew her in the 90s, so it'll be back to normal when next we see her.
