Updated version here:

Here's something I've been thinking about doing for a long time - the many costume changes of the ninja girl. I've essentially made a virtual paperdoll for uniformity's sake, and also to make things easier on myself. Later we'll get to everyday casual wear, sporty gym clothes, and elegant evening dresses, but doing all of that at once would be something of an undertaking, so I've broken things down by category, for occasional, periodic release.

First up, Ninja Camouflage! From left to right:
Miyuki's ordinary outfit, in standard urban low-light indigo-violet-grey. The other ninja girls wear a short traditional jacket similar to a Shitagi, (which Miyuki dispenses with) her crop top would normally be optionally worn under it. The lacquer wood oni mask is sometimes used to distract or intimidate enemies, since it interferes with her vision it is only rarely actually worn, instead being tied around the arm for safe keeping.

Alternate cold weather variant of the urban camo, for those nights when the fog rolls in aggressively off the Pacific. The longer turtleneck allows Miyuki to blend slightly better with shadows and Bohemian cafes, but fails to show off her abs, and therefore is rarely seen.

Woodland variant, using the old US 4 color pattern. The ninja use a variety of woodland patterns, mostly US 4 color, Vietnam era tigerstripe and JSDF jeitai pseudo flecktarn, although modern digital patterns are beginning to come into use. Plain greens and browns are also used, the green variant seeing regular use on St. Patrick's Day. Typically used with a ghille net when stationary.

Desert variant, as previously seen in adventures in Afghanistan and the middle east. The Keffiyeh around her neck is commonly used in the middle east as protection from sand and sunlight, and is generally quite practical in arid environments. As Japan has no real deserts, traditional ninja practices only dealt cursorily with desert combat and survival, and ninja emigrants to the US consequently had to develop their own techniques, many of which were copied from the Apache.

Snow/arctic variant. In addition to a comfy jacket, long zubon are worn under the mountaineer's hakama. This is the normal practice, although Miyuki typically wears just the stab-resistant mesh and her western underwear underneath; in the snow the extra layer becomes necessary. The complete ninja equipment for snowy environments includes snowshoes for fast and relatively trackless traversal of snowy terrain, they are not seen here.

Enjoy,
-D

One for desert, and one for snow, eh?

Yup! She should probably also have a cold weather version of the desert and woodland camo, but that would really be a lot of really similar outfits (also, my plan for these is to do 5 at a time).

This is awesome, can't wait for the next set. A Miyuki paper doll sounds really cool, actually.

Hopefully, having done this once, the next ones will go quicker. The upside to these was that they all shared the same line art, which won't really happen again with what I have planned.

I kind of went back and forth on whether to use a actual camo patterns or just plain colors - her look is a blend of traditional and modern and I try not to push it too far one way or the other. It came out pretty well though, I'm kind of thinking I should have used the old US 3 color snow/urban for the snow version.

Maybe, but if you stick with tradition all the time; your creativity and imagination will stagnate.
