Description
Early in the morning, the end of a long night indeed. I imagine the producers at KTVU will jump at any chance to use that "Ninja Attack" graphic, I know I would.Ink drawing colored in photoshop.
Enjoy,

Even at 5am she still manages to have her blades totally blood free

Well, the one here is sheathed, so I'd assume she cleaned it beforehand. The order she does things may be a little off, since she took off her clothes before bandaging her arm...
There's actually a technique in Japanese swordsmanship whereby you can clean a large part of the blood off the blade of your sword by swinging it at the right angle with the proper force, or so they claim. I expect it splatters blood everywhere...

Ritual.
First she cleans and sheaths her blades, unless she's in bad need of medical attention.
Next, she strips off her clothing in front of a mirror to make sure that she isn't wearing a bug or tracer and to see if she has any injuries she didn't notice.
Katanas are f***ing sharp! If she has a bad cut in her side, she might not notice it if her endorphins are pumping into overdrive. Best to check herself out in a mirror to make sure.
Next, medical attention for herself, unless she needs an ambulance, making sure to keep the treatment discrete. She doesn't want to look unusual or expose her weaknesses to potential opponents.
A ritual like that is a great way to wind down after exerting herself all night.
It all makes sense to me.
Great expression of intensity. I can hear her going over every move she'd made that night, deciding how she can improver herself.

I don't think it gets all the blood off, after all they usually picture the guy wiping the rest off afterward. Would make an impressive looking splatter on a paper screen, though.

Stunning work here, P.C. Wow for the Miyuki-ness of this wonderful image, but because I am both weird and somewhat sad...
I would like to know what the poster behind her is?
"There's a poster behind the mostly naked ninja?" Yes, as a matter of fact there is, and I was somehow able to look away long enough to see it. Like I said, weird and sad.

Ah, well the details do go into the background to be noticed. That's the Green Tara, a female Bodhisattva who represents salvation from material danger and suffering (as opposed to spiritual). Presumably she also has one of the Blue Tara, the fierce Tara who is the embodiment of the transmutation of anger, and to carries a kukhri in one of her many hands. I'm not sure if it's actually an altar or just a devotional painting.
She also has a Chinese Jian on the wall above her TV, mostly because I have a Jian on my wall (but no TV anymore). I'm operating on the assumption that this is her bedroom, seeing as the living room has never been depicted as having a giant mirror (and there's no TV in the Bathroom).

Not surprising that Miyuki would either worship or have in her possession a goddess holding a Kukhri. I find it so incredible that you incorporate such detailed and functional pieces into your work. For example the Japanese painting behind the #4 comic with Miyuki. Great work as always, and thanks for the explanation.
Now I know... And Knowing Is Half The Battle.

There's a whole range of color coded Taras, but I figured the Green one, as a protector and the Blue one, as a destroyer, fit with Miyuki's role as a ninja vigilante - protector of the innocent, destroyer of the guilty.
I always try to make the details relevant or at least consistent with the characters - like Lyta's coffee cup - [link] or Akiko's tank top - [link] so you can kind of get a sense of them as more rounded individuals.

Given that you have a somewhat limited space to truly establish your characters, that makes since. I have however many pages I come up with to establish my characters. Reason #287 as to why I truly respect artists.
(You notice that no one ever says reason #1-10, they always start at some ridiculous number as if they actually have 286 other reasons in mind. It annoys me.)

It's actually easier than you might think, or rather I often find myself thinking "something needs to go there or it'll look odd." That was something of the case here, with the TV behind her to the left, the space behind and to the right looked too blank.
Of course sometimes I just think "I should totally give her a Varsity Kendo T shirt, because it would look cool and add something to the pic in general", so it works both ways.

Visual representation is all about balance, or so I hear. Luckily, with characters as versatile as yours, you have a wide range of situations and environments that you can put them in without it looking off.
Miyuki fits in situations when she is the threatening ninja in the rain as well as when she's hanging upside down swiping someone's remote. The comic environment does not distract from how dangerous she can be, nor does the ominous pose conflict with how silly she can be. Both fit her well.

For all my characters I try to imagine them in a range of likely situations and work out what they do and how they act. Normal things that will probably never come up, like what they were like at school, what they do when they get up first thing in the morning, what they eat, where they get their exercise and so on.
Since a lot of mainstream comics have large numbers of characters many of them don't get much development, and even those that do seem more like a collection of powers or traits than an individual, and that's what I hope to avoid.

That IS an awesome graphic. Though it's hard to take my eyes off the mostly naked ninja girl standing square in front of the pic. I swear man you can draw some absolutely gorgeous women.

She's just got home from the ninja attack and is headed off to bed. Me, I'm glad they don't need me at the ninja attack, cause I've gotta be up at 6 if I'm going to be at work by 8.
