Since it's October we're getting close to the 2016 Halloween pinup, and as usual I've been running a poll; so far this year you overwhelmingly want to see Clarissa joined by her heretofore unseen gothy archaeology assistant. That being the case I figured I should introduce her, if for no other reason than to give her design a go. Also, it'd be a tad awkward to meet her for the first time when she doesn't have any clothes on.Anyway, Nicole "Nikki" Eriksson is an undergrad majoring in archaeology, and has gotten herself a job as Clarissa's assistant (Clarissa may be the assistant to an actual professor, although it seems she mostly works cataloging artifacts). Nikki is also Akiko's roommate, due to the law of conservation of characters (since they're both college students it's not completely coincidental, only mostly so).
I should mention - my original concept, and it's noted somewhere, was that Miyuki is 22 and Clarissa is 2 years younger, but I'm thinking I should revise that a little. Some of you have mentioned Clarissa seems like she's be older (she's a bit more worldly, if flighty sometimes), and given that she seems to be doing graduate level work she probably should be a year or two older instead.

Stupid sexy Egyptology!
That's basically what'll be going on in this year's Halloween Pinup - I'd like it to be up for people to see for the second half of October, so if all goes well it'll happen sometime this weekend.

I was playing with the idea of them being cousins, but I think I'd rather have them not be related at all (among other things, that would explain why Clarissa has never mentioned Nikki before). Then, of course, more than one gothy archaeologist is an amazing coincidence, but not more unusual than anything else that happens around here, really.

She looks an awful lot like the "gothy mermaid 2". Same hairstyle, same magenta highlights, same purple eyes.

Yeah, I was looking back at that recently and decided I really liked that look, so I thought I'd reuse it on a recurring character. You'll notice too that gothy mermaid #1 looks a lot like Clarissa (I think I updated Clarissa's look a bit about the same time I drew the first gothy mermaid).

Thanks - I used this same look a while back for a gothy mermaid pic, and I liked it enough I decided I should reuse it. I figure I'll probably try a few different outfits for Nikki, but this will serve as a basic default outfit - it's easy to draw and sits somewhere between a more fashion oriented goth outfit and a more practical field archaeologist look. And the next time we see her she won't be wearing a thing, of course.
