Description A while back I commissioned this lovely line-art from
The concept was simple, Ino & Temari dressed up to rendezvous with their dates. (You can use your imagination here, but those who watch me are certain to guess who I intended those dates to be. )

I decided to make the background a cafe with hints of Konoha-ness in the background. But for some reason I really wanted to draw bricks. I'd never done them before, so I thought it was about time I did. Hope you like them...I had fun.

Yamanaka Ino & Sabaku no Temari are from Kishimoto Masashi's Manga Naruto.

Thank you.

I really love commissioning art so I can color it. (Drawing the backgrounds myself is fun too.)

So did you do the background? it is really great, the details on the bricks are so good *--*. I envy so much your traditional coloring skills, really, I'm so bad at it hehe

Its all about a few simple rules:
-Look at the kind of things you want to draw (whether in the world around you or in photos)
-Think about the details you want to recreate.
-Attempt to draw what you see.
-Keep scrap materials to test color Schemes
-If it doesn't come out as you want, look again and figure out what might have gone wrong. (or get a friend or other person, who's opinion you trust to point out problem areas)
-Try again.

Practice really does make a big difference. We all can learn a little something from making mistakes.

I keep a note book with my favorite color combinations for hair, eye & skin tone for characters I color on a regular basis.

I confess I scan my original linearts, clean them up a little bit digitally then print them on better paper. (That way if I were to have an epic failure, I'd have a second chance.)

Ohh that's a nice one!, I've never thought about doing it (probably that could be the reason I refused to keep on traditional, because I was afraid to ruin my lineart). But I will practice it. Usually I'm into pencil colors, I think they are good for a newbie, right? Or should I try with other media, as watercolors, markers, etc?

Colored pencils are good - there are some amazing artist who work with them on dA.

You should look for traditional artists and some tutorials. People might share awesome tips.

The original lines were printed on an 11x14 piece of Bristol. I colored the girls ...then really had to think over the rest. The wall was one of the few times I had to use a little something besides my Copics to see me through; the cement grays were done with 2 shades of Prismacolor pencils. I also used some of the pencils to clean up an area of some color bleed out (their light colors can give some coverage over darker areas...as long as the color isn't too dark.

My favorite piece of the color choices is Temari's outfit. I'm so happy with how the turquoise goes with the sage green.

I did a little research on cafe type settings, so those are an amalgamation of several styles I looked at. I really got into coloring the girls...then the umbrellas...then the bricks, which took longer than they thought they would.
