Description
My focus was on a feeling c: kind of doubtful and solitary, just like Soot! Will be coloured later I think xD just kinda wanted to show you all how I sketch, it's usually this stage I feel the picture is the best!art (c) belongs to me.

You've gotten the emotions across really well, the facial features in relation to the angle of the head are perfect too. I'm really impressed : D
You can really see the sadness in his eyes. Oh dear, poor Soot ;^;

Ooh thank you dear ;v; I was surprised too that the angles felt so good when I doodled them up, yeah I wanted to hmm maybe not show clear or obvious sadness :3 because people tend to hide that, what we show are small signs. But don't worry about him xD life is balance and he just got some downs before the ups.

That's quite alright c:
You're right, it's just a hint of sadness or worry in his eyes. It's quite subtle, like he's trying to hide it rather than express it.
Will you be carrying on with this image and colouring it in?

Penzone In reply to rlhIllustration [2015-01-21 09:31:42 +0000 UTC]
Yeah c: he's used to hiding it and turning it inwards instead of outwards, sort of like that.
Indeed I will right now I'm experimenting if I should use the original sketch as lineart or a cleaner one, but with colour I'm as lost as always

Poor Soot :c
Ah, awesome : D
I think it will look really good as a full image with colour and shading.
Maybe a little bit tidier, but I think the sketchiness of the lines suits the tone of the drawing.
I'm not sure about the colour. I'm not so good at backgrounds myself :c
I do think blue and purple tones would suit it though, the colder colours. But just experiment until you find ones you like the look of c:

Well he got ups and downs c:Β
I've had the picture laying for a while D: gah I just cannot get a good result shading, I mean you for example make beautiful black/white sketches, I thought I'd make the shading black/white before adding colour, but shading has always been my weakspot.

c:
Yeah, shading digitally is really awkward. Its something I find difficult too.
There's so many styles of shading too! Unfortunately I think it's all about experimentation (which I don't like doing, it takes me so long! D: )
It's probably why I like doing traditional realism so much, there's a limited amount of ways to do the shading on a realism drawing with pencils X3 hehe

SO sorry for my late reply ;b; I'm so rude, but school has taken a lot of time and energy.
Yeah I don't like experimentation either xD I just like having it done fast and easy, that is why I'm on a search for the perfect way for me to shade.

sketches almost always look better than the final version don't they? ;^;

I think sketching out the drawing sometimes tends to look better than the final finish as well^^

Yeah c: but at the same time it can look even better if I just manage to pull lineart and colour well

I find it interesting on how you sketch Soot! One day I'm going to attempt drawing him and see if it's any different on the way I would draw him. Oh and I love the eyes!!!!!!
