Description
Coon (short for Raccoon), maybe 12 or 13 years old, female ♀She was an old old stray cat, sterilized/neutered/desexed, who usually comes by twice a day to eat, drink and catch a snooze ... and to scratch on our blinds! Ohhh ... you should see the tatters she made of the bamboo blinds! We had to replace them a couple of times over the years after she had shredded them to pieces! ^^
We met her when we moved to our current home in 1998, and she was already a full-grown adult cat of maybe 3-5 years. Our relationship progressed very slooooowly over the years that she came by - she was too wary of humans. We had only got to the point where she came regularly for food and water, used the litter-tray that we maintained for her in the driveway/porch, slept in the cat-bed we set-up for her. Sometimes, she would reach out with one paw and pat our hand that had just served her food. But she would never allow us to pat her in return.
She died within months of this photo. She was one special lady.

"That very first time I felt those well-worn paw-pads on my hand, I felt my eyes smart with tears. Subsequently, that still melted my heart each and every time. Then one day, she stopped coming. We knew that day would come, but it was still difficult, finding her bloated body in a drain in the neighbourhood."

Feral cats are like that. She was fortunate to find you because you gave her the patience and love that she needed to slowly gain a "relationship" with humans...as far as a feral cat can. If you'd had more time, I'm certain you could have gotten further with her. Sounds to me like she'd become feral due to abuse of some kind but you were giving her love and she responded in her own way. That one touch I'm sure meant the whole world to you...and to her. You did a good thing here.

Now my eyes are full of tears too....literally! Through you, I feel her little paws too. (Sorry, hard to type through the tears) At least you found her, as difficult as it was to do so....
Know that others share your grief...

Sounds like our cat and our window screens. I had to get special cat-proof screens!

No. We use plastic ones. My cat doesn't seem to be interested in digging her claws into those ones. The pull-cord, though...

Aw, she does seem like a sweetie! At least you were able to eventually get some sort of relationship with her.

ahhh no no, we are not exactly looking after her carefully ... she wouldn't let us!
