Yet another adorable cat picture from you. Thanks for sharing!
If my cat did this it would be an "I refuse to pose" pose, or maybe a "you should be attending to my tummy rub".

"Gremlin" ... is that because she turns into a monster when you try and wash her? Yup, the calico colouring is my favourite too!

Well...I actually don't bathe my kitties. I found it far too difficult and exerting for me to fight them, so I just don't. I let them do their own cleaning, and it's just easier for me. When they were kittens I did try to though.
But Gremlin can make herself look gremlin-ly!!! She is a very special kitty for me though! I always tell her, "Nope, sorry, can't feed the Gremlin after midnight!!!"
But I feed her anyways. Oh and she's soooo FAT!!!

No, as a general guide, it's not good to bathe kitties ... they are not like dogs; normally, they don't require baths except when they are actually soiled. If they are free-ranging kitties, they may require bathing from time to time when they get dirtied, but for indoor cats, there is no necessity. In fact, bathing washes away their natural oils and can give rise to skin problems.

Nah. My kitties don't get soiled that badly. Most of my kitties have very nice soft coats.:nod Actually, only one kitty, a calico, bites her hair and will pull it out. So, she must be sprayed with an aloe spray with hydro-cortisone in it, for hot spots, and stuff like that. Then she'll leave herself alone.

ahhhhh ... and therein lies the danger! When you fall into the trap of thinking "I already have xxx number of cats; one more won't make that much difference in space/time/effort" ... then soon, it's another one more, and another .... IO have twenty at the moment ...

Sorry, but I don't support the buying of cats when there are so many out there on the streets and in shelters, looking for homes. They are either taken in from the streets (abandoned or injured) or given up by their previous humans for whatever reasons.

ahhh ... I don't know how you feel on this issue, and I don't want to offend you if you do buy your cats, but at the same time, I don't want to hide how I feel on the matter ... hmmm, am I making any sense?

NamiraWilhelm In reply to pergamjee [2012-05-06 13:12:54 +0000 UTC]
Its not really so much hiding how you feel as judging people before you know :/ One of my cats were bought, yes, but i was 7 at the time, so not really a lot i could do about that. As you say though, you werent intending to offend, just the way you worded it with the 'sorry' came across as such.
I do plan to -buy- a cat at some point, but tbh thats just because i want to look into more exotic species, since i love all cats.
But i guess the dream for most cat owners is to have a bit of land and space for some of the unwanteds (i'd say i have the money for it, but i live in a small sub urban house so not ideal), so you're doing a great thing.

Yes, I do judge people ... I avoid breeders like the plague. Of course, I know there must be some who may actually be rather nice people, but I don't have the inclination nor time to find out, nor do I really miss having them in my life. I have seen and read of far too many examples of the health problems we humans have made for pet-animals, simply because in our infinite selfishness, we have decided to breed particular 'attractive' traits to the extreme. I will not get onto that soap-box today, but I will reiterate ... I do not support the buying of pets.

And that is a pity, for I love cat stories. Stupid? No. More like idealistic. It is good you have enough faith in helping people make their own decisions. After decades of working with animals and with humans, I have come to the conclusion that I much prefer animals to humans; and I spend what precious time I have with like-minded people, and our animals in our little sanctuary. I am more concerned with out-living our furry charges, then with forcing my opinions on others. I don't have enough time left for such luxuries.
Anyways, I wish you and your five cats all the best, and may you find your sanctuary.

In a similar way i dont make time for those who judge those before knowing the whole situation, or believe themselves superior full stop. You may well be a very nice person, but given how you force your opinions on others, rather critically, i have no time for you. I believe in tolerance firstly, and helping people make their own decisions secondly. You can express your opinion and hope it doesn't fall on death ears, an attempt to let people make the -right- decision, but you like so many others choose to be critical, so you will not be heard. No doubt you put that down to the person on the receiving ends stupidity, not the brash way you worded it.
Anyway, we're obviously not likely to be swapping cat stories any time soon, we're not each others kind of people, so to an extent this a moot point. But perhaps -i- gave -you- some food for thought by way of open discussion, not by trying to make you feel stupid, vile, ashamed for what you think.
