Description
Blind cat, Jo (tortoiseshell/tabby female), almost 3 years old, with her good friend, Ling (ginger male), almost 2 years.[Stupid metal pole sorta ruins it]
We had Jo first. We taught her to use the wooden steps you see behind Ling that lead to a wooden shelf that's level with the garden wall. Jo loves this and goes up several times a day. Even though she can't see over the garden wall, she enjoys the breeze and the sunshine. Only problem is, she sometimes forgets she's on a shelf highup and just steps off! Once, she suffered a deep cut on her paw-pad that required stitches. We couldn't bear to ban her from using the stairs. So we "ask" the powers that be to send Jo a companion cat that will be nice to her and look after her.
Almost immediately after, our vet called to say that she had a four-month old stray ginger male that she can't bear to put down as he was really sweet. We agreed to take him in.
And he was everything we asked for - a good friend and companion for Jo. And you know, the most amazing thing is, he protects her! When she's up there on the shelf, he lies next to her such that he's on the outer-edge and she's nearer to the wall!
Jo's choice of games are always contact ones...probably because she's blind. So she's always jumping on Ling and wrestling with him. Often she gets carried away and bites and kicks and scratches him...he never retaliates...he just screams and runs away. He is sighted, bigger, male and stronger; but he is very careful with her. We believe he is the answer to our prayers.
For more of Jo's story, see 'Blind Eyes' ... ... and 'Glowing Eyes' ...
Hey, and now Jo has her very own stamp, made specially for her by her admirer ...

That is so sweet! What a good friend he is to her! ;_; Reminds me of how Ricky, our 20 pound big boy, sometimes wrestled with Michi, but he'd always be gentle with her. With the others, he threw around his weight, but he knew she was different.

Awwww ... your Ricki-Michi story just reminds me of our Scruffpuff-Braveheart one (you saw them in the "Fightclub" series here ...[link] ).
tells of her two cats that grew blind in old age, and says that her other cats were always careful to approach carefully and gently buttheads. The compassion of cats ... something we humans can emulate!

Isn't the other cat a tabby, not a tortoiseshell? o3o

She's a calico or caliby or tortie or torbie, depending on which "authority" you subscribe to ... for example, the one here ... [link] ... would classify her as a "torbie", which is a tortoiseshell-tabby.
You are free to call her anything you wish.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as the description is enough for people to identify which cat is which in my pics, I'm cool. The cats are not bothered what they are called, and neither am I. ^^

That's OK. Yes, I found my horses were very sensitive to who needed help and who didn't as well as my cats and dogs.

The ginger male is Ling, and he's not blind.
The tortoiseshell female is Jo, and she's blind. Her eyeballs are fine; it's a nerve-connection problem. Maybe that's why she doesn't look blind.
We had Jo first. We taught her to use the wooden steps you see behind Ling that lead to a wooden shelf that's level with the garden wall. Jo loves this and goes up several times a day. Even though she can't see over the garden wall, she enjoys the breeze and the sunshine. Only problem is, she sometimes forgets she's on a shelf highup and just steps off! yes, indeed!
Well, the photos go all the way back to 1992, and many of the cats in them are long deceased. Uploading them to dA is one way to preserve the photos (and the memories!). I find the process of sorting, scanning, uploading these old photos is also part of the ritual of getting over the loss, and sharing them with other catlovers also help.

well, sorry for your loss.
I have lost a few too.
(Porter, Scoots, Midnight, Fulton)
And the sad thing is, Porter was about 10, the rest were probably under a year.

Thanks, but really, it's ok. It's better they go before me than I before them. It's always a worry - what's gonna happen to them if I go first.
Of course, there are the usual regrets for actions that were not taken, for decisions that could have, on hindsight, been made differently. But the overriding emotion is, has always been, and will always be, gratitude.
We have this letting-go ritual at the death of each little one – we say goodbye, and thanks for the happy memories, the life-lessons, etc. All these silently, heart-to-soul, so to speak. It is important to us that they understand that the tears are a natural part of the grieving, but are not meant to bind them here. We had to learn to let go, so that they can go on.
And we the humans have to go on too, as we have other cats that still need us. We have 22 still with us. The youngest is seven, and the rest range in age from twelve to nineteen.
I am sorry for your loss. I hope you are coping well. If you want a listening ear, I am here, 24/7, ok?
