Description
Here we have a very flappy lad. The scarlet flapper is part of the red jungle ecosystem, acting as a semi-airborne predator of other Hydropetrygius creatures and small fauna of the red jungle. The scarlet flapper can glide from tall hemophyta structures to swoop down and catch prey mid-glide in its mouth. The boneless nature of the scarlet flapper means that flexibility in its wings would make it less aerodynamic. However, this issue is mitigated by using a simple hydrostatic skeleton to keep the wings from flexing too much while it flaps around. It uses a paddle-like tail to accurately control its direction in the air like a rudder which is crucial to its success as an airborne hunter. To make a landing the scarlet flapper twists its paddle-like to meet the surface first and grip on to it as the body would slap up against the surface to absorb the shock use water cohesion/friction to stick to wet surfaces. After consuming their meal they will use their fins to climb to a higher vantage point to repeat the process.Related content
