Description
Artificial Evolution is a classic topic of artificial life.I am interested in understanding the principles of biological evolution; in the spirit of the synthetic methodology, the understanding of biological phonomena can be greatly enhanced by trying to mimic or model aspects of the biological system..
Evolution has worked pretty well for biological systems, so why not apply it to the systems that control robots?
Evolutionary computing has been tapped to produce coherent robot behavior in simulation, and real robots have been used to evolve simple behavior like moving toward light sources and avoiding objects. As technology advances who knows what we will see...maybe this image is a reference to the future...complete artificial life....a life that has evolved.
In a collaboration with `pixelcatalyst this is what we present, concepts surrounding this area..it truly is fasinating, who knows what the future holds. Im pleased how it turned out, damn that crazy 2d took me a while...I guess you could say this piece was to celebrate 100k pageviews, it was also released in the latest depthcore pack 'evolution'..
Oh and yes i know this has been ripped 100's of times, and people keep claiming it as theirs or a 'render' but no..pixelcatalyst is the main creator of the model and i did the other work. If you see it elsewhere just note me or pixelcatalyst, cheers..

Great image. I really liked this and I am usually not too fond of lighter backgrounds. Looks great on my desktop.

This is one of the first artworks I ever saw on DA, way way back in the day Really gave me a start to see it after so long, as a DD no less. Somewhere deep within the comments rests my old account's expression of awe for this work. Well done

I was just about to say.. when i saw this that this is oooold stuff dude.. and it was almost all pixel that made the design originally.
Im old friends with him and was chocked for a sec there till i read your comments about the piece.

Truely outstanding- I have no clue about computional evolution, but am fixated by 'gynoid' imagery- and this reminds me so much of the manga classic 'Ghost in the Shell'. Top stuff. I truly suck ass, but stuff like this always helps spur me on to try and be braver..... so just give me say 20yrs to catch up!

I'd be careful with artificial evolution. Machines start to think too much and evolve for the wrong reasons, you get genocide.

I don't like her leg.... the "apparatus" that's on her thigh looks blocky and out of place...
The cables that have no connection at the end kinda bother me too... it looks busy and incomplete...
As for the actual back drop that the 3D elements are on... I could not be more awestruck. The level of detail is just amazing. I do a lot of pixel work but... nothing of this scale.
Keep up the good work!

Awesome job! We do see a form of artificial evolution in the ever increasing "upgrades" to software and hard ware. A.I. is in the stage of evolving from simple automated programs to fully adaptable self governing systems.

yeah, i doubt he's talking about evolution on the phenotypic / genotypic type. you can call it behavioral evolution of the robot. I could go into much further detail as a biology major what's possible and what's not. But i really like this concept although i do have to agree, something mechanical can't evolve unless it's composed of nanites or something like that. Reason that organisms can evolve is the fact that we are made of cells, which are the foundation of life and evolutionary success. Hence again reason evolution happens is the fact of errors in genetic code appearing through generations, and sometimes a favorable change occurs. And sometimes animals simply change in order to adapt to their environment.
But in the end i do really enjoy the picture, just can't agree on the idea of evolution. I can agree on adaptive behavior evolution, but not on the line of genotypic or phenotypic evolution.
