Description
yes, the quality is horrible... XDscanner, Y U SO bad?
all right, the upper left picture is a result of a continuous development of my molluscoid heads, and I got another idea which might work as well. The thing is I really like the hagfish and their extendable rasping tongues
Thing is, I just got an idea that a similar structure could become something like a grasping arm, and only the lower two of the four tentacles here would be long, and the other two would be just short barbs, and would function more like antennae than tentacles.
The two sketches on the right are a skeletal and fleshed out head of a sturgeon-like filter-feeding ichthyid. There is a small inconsistency in it, the lower endognath should be a bony plate inside the "tongue and the bony arch under the skull should have a different name. the free.floating bone above the skull is located dorsal of a small pump-like bladder, which propells water into the gill chamber.
this is a very specialized species, it can either sand with its shovel-like upper endognath and capture small digging animals with its setae-lined jaws or it can filter small swimming animals directly out of the water. It does so by directing the incurrent to the palate. the tongue directs food items into the throat and deflects the coming water through slits in front of either posterior eye. (yes, the black spot on the top of the head is a badly visible anterior eye, the spiracle is between the anterior eyes.

I especially like the anatomy in this on (with the gills), but all of them are awesome, actually!

Thank you so much!
They were not meant to be gills, but overly specialized jaws, but I can see they could function that way too! You've actually brought me to an idea!
It'll require a lot of sketches probably, but you helped me out of my art block! Thank you!

Amazing designs. the first two remind me of a cephalopod. the third from the right if it is original.

It's certainly better quality than what my old scanner used to bring up... For a moment I thought this was a new clade; I certainly would not have recognized this as a relative of your former icthyids if you had not so informed me (or if I had not noticed mention of endo- and exo- gnaths). I am still trying to trace the holes; where does the water exit to?

if you look closely, there are these dark spots in the back of the mouth, that's a newly introduced idea and it's basically a hole in cheek kind of thing

I know,it looks like a Squid..If there is any weird creature living in water which has good body design,it is the Squid.Who knows there may be some Gigantic Squids living below somewhere like in Tales or it lived before some millions of years.

indeed, besides, adding tentacles just makes things look "alien" doesn't it? but maybe if we had tentacles and not arms and legs, we would think the same of arms and legs...

Sure Many people including me use to wonder if it's possible for life to exist in some other planets and how they will look like.Alright, but actually in this Earth itself, still there are many mysteries remains to be solved of living animals that is..in deep ocean.Man..these are interesting.

in his series _Through the wormhole_, Morgan Freeman once observed that Darwin and other naturalists kept field notebooks full of illustrations of animals, and wondered "what would field journals look like on alien worlds"...and you're answering that. bravo.

There is something about them... that makes me like this work veru much. Perhaps it's that skull anatomy?
And as for the scanner It's probably bad cause it's HP. I hearrd HP scanners aren't best :/

yeah, it's HP and an old one at that XD I'll probably get a canon or something when this one dies XD

Canons are definately better. I orderd Epson though, for I heard from a proffesiona photographer/graphic it provides much better quality, for little higher price.
