Description
Getting dangerously close to a teddy bear cholla during sunset. Just when I felt I wasn't going to get anything good this evening the sky lit up and I rushed to find a foreground subject that would make for a good image. Of course, the cactus never seem to let me down.Mcdowell mountains- Arizona

Great shot! Reminds me of old 50s horror movies like THEM (giant ants in the desert) - but that's just me

One of my favorites of yours to date! All-round clean image, sharp, comp, light. A beauty!

I love the McDowels. Go to the Gateway area a lot. What area is this?

This is from the lost dog wash trailhead. I prefer that area more than gateway since it's more rugged and less crowded.

Thanks! I wanted to emphasize the cactus and make it appear as if it were coming toward the viewer hence why the majority of the frame is the cactus. Also there was not much else going on between the cactus and the mountain.

well, that explains why there is so much cactus (;
maybe you could have made the movement more clearer by prolonging the shutter speed and actually moving the camera towards the cactus; just a thought, I never tried it...

This was about a 2 second exposure, the clouds weren't moving fast however. I never thought about maybe zooming in on the subject, but perhaps the next time I am out I'll give it a try.

Stunning! I'm not sure if it's the cactus or that incredible skyline that draws my attention more. This is just beautiful. Nice work!
