This was a brilliant design. So much more character than the original; he's not just a recolor like Shadow the Hedgehog. Took me a minute to get used to the "emo eyes," but now I think it's a fine touch -- and it's not so over-the-top that it completely dominates his image. He doesn't look "goth," he just looks like he's seen a lot of battles and done a lot of bad things. It's taken a toll on him.

I only wish the game and the series had caught on more...

While I was never much of a fan of sudden character design change, I have to say, I am definitely impressed with this particular design for Axel.

This design took me some getting used to, but it makes him look MUCH more like a villain rather than just a counterpart like in the original games. I'm diggin' that sword, and the details on his armor are sweet. ^_^ Love your art, sir.

I always thought Axel Gear was a pretty cool bad-ass, even if he didn't provide much screen time or personality for the majority of the old games. xP

While I do feel this re-design was a bit strange at first, I eventually grew into it (especially since the old design was scarce as hell). xD

Fantastic this is the best Axel G picture I've seen indeed.

Your style of colouring is much better on axel gear's rusted armour getting the lighting on colours this perfect is ridiculously hard to do, it takes me weeks to get something done as great like this.

Axel Gear! My worthy opponent! To be honest, while a very fun boss in the games he appears, he's very much an unfair and merciless combatant

I love his medieval design for the new game, it strikes a very good contrast with Sparkster's more technological outfit. You've done a great job at redesigning them, Mr. Lumby

Definately one of the best pics of Axel, wish this had made it into the game. Thanks for uploading this I love the detail here and he looks even more badass than his normal standing pose that was used in promotions for RK.

Heh that evil purple smoke and his ability to jetpack infinately, made for a great boss fight. Though I would like to ask, did Konami ever want you do to a Sparkster vs. Axel battle in the giant rock'em sock'em robot mechs? I figured they would've kept that gimmick since it was in both RKA and Sparkster (Genesis/Megadrive version).
