Description A project I finished in November 2012, but hadn't got round to get photos of until now (and even now the photo-session was kind of improvised, as you might tell by the quality).

Anyway: black doublet as seen on many other pictures, this time with the Venetian hose I originally intended to go with it. Not very flattering for one's figure, but actually quite comfy. I used the pattern from The Tudor Tailor, but of course had to adapt the waistline a bit. Made in the same black wool as the doublet, lined with undyed linen. Pockets on both sides and buttoned in front and below the knee.

Cotton stockings are not very period, shoes not at all period and the bonnet isn't mine.

At first I thought it was a young man.

Great job, as always. But is that a zipper I spy at the lower parts of the jacket? I guess, it only looks that way

Alas, you are mistaken. I couldn't attach a zipper properly even if I tried to... The doublet is closed with hooks and eyes, and what you see is the shirt underneath showing through the small gap.

It wouldn't have been very "period" anyhow

I'm so glad you told me. Otherwise I would never have known

You know, I think it's hella flattering, mostly because you've got the silhouette so correct for the period. It looks 100% legit!

Thank you <3

(It kind of grows on me - I don't think the hose are at all as bad as when I first tried them on. Historical stuff does really strange things to one's perception of "looking nice"...)

I would have been surprised if men’s clothing had been flattering for a female figure . It looks elegant, though!

Actually, it's kind of more flattering for a female figure. A man with a fashionable 17th century potbelly - not so much. I chose to exclude the peascod (yep! that's a word) from the doublet... >_>

Good point.

I had to google peascod, though. I want a-ha! Didn’t know these breastparts had a name of their own.
