Description
The result of the watercolour workshop in Aachen, tons of very helpful input from the absolutely wonderful , as well as some stolen indigo. Also a result of me sometimes having very vivid images before actual gaming sessions take place. Hence: Akane (the silhouette!) is mine, Tobias (fast asleep) is 's and the setting is totally random. Played at syskonskapet.se, as usual.
There were more details, especially foreground, but I decided that keeping them might spoil the light. I updated this with a scanned version, which came closer to the original colourwise.

Indeed! Honestly, I did this ages and ages ago, but I think you're right - I am unsure, since I think I borrowed some colours for this one.

So beautiful... the light on the bedsheet is really great. Well done!

Thank you very much. I find it easier to get the light as I want it when working in just one colour, less distraction

What game were you referring to in your description? This is such a beauiful image. I am enjoying your works so much!

A text-based roleplay. Best way to describe it is that we write every other (or third or fourth and so on, depending on the number of players) paragraph in a story. Some plots have been running for years, some only lasts for a night or a weekend. It's very fun and highly addictive
And thanks again! It means a lot.

I really, really like this! I think the values are just right, and the whole scene gives me good a feeling along with a sense of mystery. Your characters seem interesting! Where could I learn more about them?

Thank you! I really enjoyed working in monochrome. And though this is a purely "this could have happened, but never did"-scene, I guess there are small random pieces of information spread across my gallery. The roleplay itself is in Swedish, sadly

What can I say that the others did not already say? Beautiful lineart, lovely composition, my most favourite colour of all. And yes - I think the cauliflowers in the lower levels give it the textures it needs. Great work!

Thank you so much! Maybe I'll eventually change my mind about the cauliflowers... And thanks for the fav, too!

This is absolutely gorgeous! Especially the folds in the clothes. The lighting is brilliantly done.
I have a soft spot for monochromatic pieces. I just love 'em.
I don't think it really needs the extra detail in the foreground, either--the wonderful watercolour texture you have there is perfect.

This cannot go uncommented, though I find myself running out of things to say that hasn't been said already. I loved the lineart, and your first plans for it, and now I love the way it ended up.
I'm impressed, because I know this is outside of your comfort zone and because it's so well done I don't think I would have been able to tell, had I not known you previously. And somehow you manage to do your usual layer magic too. YOU, my friend, know how to use watercolours. The rest of us just use it to apply colour to selected areas while you know how the -paint- works. Just... just look at the floor and walls! *drools*
π: 0 β©: 1
PetStudent In reply to Verdokai [2011-08-31 20:35:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, for one the many layers hide massive amounts of unplanned cauliflowers... You'll still be able so see multiple traces everywhere
But thank you. Though I'll perhaps agree I know how the -paint- works if I manage to repeat this. O.o

Verdokai In reply to PetStudent [2011-08-31 21:22:36 +0000 UTC]
Yes! Cauliflowers! Those are the ones I've been admiring, how there are loads of them hiding beneath the surface, giving everything an awesome texture that both gives the image life and reminds us of the tools used to make it. *drool*

Seeing it again, this painting just takes my breath away! I think it's the workshop's masterpiece! Such a complex light situation, so many details, all of them shaded monochromatically and yet the picture is perfectly readable just at first glance and creates an atmosphere that is very mysterious and tense! Love it!

This is so amazing. I like the limited color-palette. It gives the whole piece a rather mystic aura. And it's also one of those kind of pictures which feels like it is part of a greater story.

And, being a role-play illustration (though, in this case, just a free fantasy around the characters), there of course is a story.

Thank you so much!
It's kind of funny with that sleeping figure - it never occured to me that it didn't show so clearly on the lineart until afterwards. Everyone who saw the lineart before hand -expected- there to be another figure, so of course they saw it - but it really didn't show that well O.o
