Description
This is not the Millennium Falcon as we have known it — rather, as it could have been.Version 1: The First Awkward Stab...
[Note: the scale of the ship has been deliberately altered for this project]
My initial attempt to rework the Millennium Falcon had advanced quite far before cumulative problems saw it abandoned in favor of the fresh version under development (Millennium Falcon Refactored - WIP ).
Shown here is an elevation cross-section of the Version 1 Docking Complex, looking forward.
I spent quite a few hours trying to sort out how to get that ramp to reach the main deck, but this two-section solution ended up rather steep, and demanded a telescoping extension that differed significantly from canon. The current approach avoids both by elevating the main deck above the saucer equator and adding a small deck below for the ramp to adjoin with a far more comfortable 15° slope — and by doing so, effectively conforms far closer to the exterior canon arrangement in appearance and operation than this earlier concept.
Although this illustration is fairly detailed, very few exact particulars of this version of the Docking Complex have carried forward to Version 2 so far, and the notes here reflect a vision for the ship that likely ended with this first draft. Nonetheless, it offers a glimpse of the level of thorough complexity I am pursuing with this project.
(Coincidentally, the astromech shown, R5-C6 "See-See", is one of three original ship's droids — and the only one which would survive into the SW-E4:ANH period in the "expanded" narrative.)
Compare to a rough cross-section of the Version 2 Docking Complex as visible in these Elevation Tests .

Fantastic work!
While I have often wondered about this, I often fell back into the childhood nostalgia ... that or the thought that putting realism into sci-fi kills a catgirl.

Thank you — though this isn't truly "realism"; rather more like an elaborated (and better thought-out) stage set design.
The charms of Star Wars as a setting probably would not endure the harsh light of actual realism.
And in case you have not yet seen where this project has gone, since:

Scale Schmale! There's no scales in infinity. LOL. Or time and relative dimension in space. I applaud your excellent work once again, a great job my friend! excellent. It's too bad, I used to love Star Wars, but Disney has done it's best to kill the franchise for me, so I have lost Star Wars, and am embracing other scifi shows I normally wouldn't look into. I think the Star Wars Franchise was best in the beginning. it's latest incarnation is crap! I hope someday Disney loses it's franchise on it. Or maybe they finally get a good writer and director who knows their shit, and doesn't steal scene for scene from the original and in addition, then creates a stupid back story about the deathstar plans. what a crappy movie that was too! Ughhh!! I can't believe I'm even commenting on Star Wars junk, but your art is the only reason I would do so. kudos!
Star Wars Disney Really Sucks! sorry.. that's just how I feel.

This the because the scale has been deliberately altered. A more complete description of the overall refactoring project is here:
