Description The YT-9300, heaviest of the YT-series of packet freighters, was once a common sight across the Galaxy, from the Core to the Rim, but the Clone Wars saw its era's end.  Fast, rugged, versatile — but the stock model was as ungainly at sublight speeds as a rocket-powered asteroid, easy prey for Separatist raiders    Sure, the "Big 93" could outrun most threats with its massive bulk thrust, but only in a straight line, and the Separatists found it far too easy to herd all but the most shrewd Captains into an ambush simply by waiting at the other end of the rush.Nonetheless, a good number of YT-9300s survived the end of their commercial ubiquity, and still ply the Galaxy individually, even to the present era:  no two alike, across the gamut of roles, proof of the model's merits and flexibility — with a bit of customization.
This started out as just a quick weekend project, based upon an idea I have tossed around forever, thrown together in SketchUp with no real plan.

It is turning out pretty well, all considering.

The YT-9300 is a big ship (just look at the tiny docking collars!) nigh as long as the 150m Corellian Corvette.  Its holds are in its massive mandibles (square freight lifts are just aft of the forward landing gear, and there may be topside hatches, too).  There is only limited lateral visibility from the bridge, but I see the windows being primarily for monitoring lading operations when in port, rather than for spaceflight guidance.

More Work in Progress images can be found in the YT-9300 Gallery.

Awesome!!  If you turn it around and add some more details to it, it could be a Star Trek ship with nacelles built into the saucer.  I almost thought it was a ST ship at first.  Just Great no matter what else!
