Description After the prequels, many of us were waiting for this movie to stink. I had high expectations as since Disney was behind it, they would put *alot* of time into making sure it appealed to old fans and new. Some question the choice of J J Abrams as director, but I was one of the few to like the new Star Trek movies. So it didn't bother me.

Do you ever have that moment where a flood of memories will suddenly stream back into your mind, leaving an emotional realisation? This movie had a lot of those moments for me.

I saw it on opening night in Australia and this was the worst possible time for me to see it. I get uncomfortable in crowds and prefer having a few rows of solitude between me and the next popcorn-muncher. But I was so keen to see it that I didn't want to wait damnit!
But even the drunk guy yelling at the screen didn't break the immersion for me. Moments like Han Solo stepping back onto the Millenium Falcon or when Han and Leia meeting for the first time in years almost brought a tear to my eye they were such beautiful reunions.

I feel there is an emotional energy to most movies. Some have an unpleasant emotional energy (Like Batman V Superman) and some just light the movie theater up (Like Zootopia). I felt hints of that endless emotional energy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That energy that Star Wars lights up in nearly all of us.

The plot felt very "take it or leave it" at times. It's essentially Star Wars a new Hope done again. And moments like the starship battles I was starting to get a bit bored (so tired of Star ship battles). But I never found star ship battles that interesting to begin with, so maybe I'm the wrong audience for those.

Either way, this was an exceptional attempt at bringing the Star Wars universe back to life, and certainly a way better Star Wars movie than any of the prequels.

I remember how at the ending I was like: no movie, don't you dare to finish, I must see Luke...and oh boy I was so pleased
I rewatched recently the second trilogy and honestly...I don't get why people hate this movie more than those.

I feel like I'm the only one who DOESN'T hate the prequels.
I mean, 1 made no sense and 2 was meh, but 3 was the best of them.
You really have to feel for Anakin. He lost his mom and is about to lose his wife. No wonder he went to the dark side.
Plus, the fight with Obi-Wan and Anakin was AWESOME.
Just my opinion, if you don't agree, that's fine by me. We were made as humans to be independent.

This movie also felt more like a fantasy movie just like the prequels than sc-fi in my eyes. The jedi temple looked like something out of Lord of the Rings and the lightsaber inside reminded me of some of the Zelda games (Specifically Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker) where Link yanks out the master sword. Lastly the movie looked a LOT more realistic than the prequels.

Otherwise this movie is a hella lot better than even Revenge of the Sith. Not sure why the prequels had to be clumsy but hey, maybe in the future they can redo them, no jar jar binks and no stupid love story of Anakin and Padme.

It certainly felt far more like the originals than it did the prequels. What a relief that was..

I think as far as retreading the old formula, JJ Abrams was trying to make this a love letter to it.

Well said. That's exactly what it feels like. An affectionate love letter to the originals.
