I've found it to be a very, very hard idea to write a story around-- mine all tend to run screaming into an annoying fit of the character's self-pity.

At some point in life, everyone has a fit of self-pity. Generally, in my stories, that point tends to come sooner than later. Think on it, with Marie as an example: Every one but two of her fans claim to be so because of the idea that she could wrap herself around their characters and crush them. But her character has learned to loathe that part of her being, and almost nobody has bothered to figure that out. Self-pity or irritation at the opinions of others would be a natural response in her position.

you put that pretty nicely. I guess it plays on that idea that no one really wants to think into the situation. I mean if it was you have to do to contain the person or situation at hand then so be it, but you can only fight your own instincts for so long, along with the fact that your victim sometimes, just, won't get it. Very unfortunate and that will really induce self pity I would think until someone really gives you that dose of adrenaline you were really seeking and that hope is what keeps me wanting to see it from a different angel, at least I think right now.
