Description THIS IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS. I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK ON WHICH CHARACTERS TO MAKE!

So it's that time of the year where I am busily making con merch. These are the two new mini-plush patterns I've developped.

The one on the left is 2.5inches; I haven't dressed it, but the body is so small that I will simply paint it on. (I just laid down some markings so you can see how it'll roughly look)

The one on the right is 3 inches; it features fabric clothes.

After I make a few more with white skin (specifically for Ulquiorra), I will have a beautiful total of 115.

Since I fail at otaku culture, please let me know/send pics of potential characters that you'd like to see, think that would sell, or would want to buy.

I'm taking your feedback like requests, but it doesn't mean that I will necessarily make them.

Thanks for looking and possibly commenting. Cheers.

omigosh...it really is an army of plushies!!! And dare I ask, is that the beginning of L in the photo?

Let's see...How about going back in time and doing Trowa Barton from gundam wing (not that I'm biased...but I left him at home and I miss my Trowa plushie! DX) and the other gundam wing boys (their outfits would translate well to minis)...hitsugaya from Bleach XD...any of the meisters from Gundam 00, gundam's newest installment...OH! And what about Fruits Basket characters? They would be fairly simple. Oh I would kill for a Kyo. XD

Oh my god, they're taking over! It's like a mini army!
You should really make some Code Geass characters; that show's been getting really popular lately. It's great! And Bleach and Naruto are always requested. Maybe Chobits, too.

Oh wow, you have been busy. Personally, I'd buy any Bleach characters but other then that I'm pretty useless (I don't read all that much manga besides that). But anyway they all look great so far and good luck with the sales!

I'm going to suggest some Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshoumaru ones from "Inuyasha, AND that you maybe be among the first to do plushies for Takahashi's new series: "Rin-ne." [link] The two main characters are quite appealing.

(Plus, you know if you have some Kagome and Hiei, from Yu Yu Hakusho, ones left over, you've got a potential buyer here. ^_~)

Oh gosh, I wouldn't have time if I had to handsew everything! They're mostly machine-sewn, but I had to so some hand stitching to close up the back, or attach the head for the 2.5" ones.

Anime North? If anime north, do hetalia plushies! I'd definately 100% buy some! ANY hetalia character will probably be popular since it's a really popular show

Zarendos In reply to pheleon [2009-05-06 21:49:36 +0000 UTC]

I love all the countries, but South Italy, Norway and Denmark are my favourite ! But they're kind of .... unpopular. The most popular I think is Russia ( although Prussia's pretty popular too). The characters America UK Japan Germany Italy and Canada would probably sell. Make sure you make enough so you aren't sold out before Saturday! Because I definitely need to buy any country you make >

Light-and-Dark [2009-05-03 00:56:26 +0000 UTC]

Sure you're getting this a lot but damn that's a lot of little plushie. Cute idea though.

Bleach, Death Note, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy anyhing, Tsubasa, Legend of Zelda, Full Metal Alchamist. What I can think of off top of my head that are popular.

Video game I wouldn't mind seeing characters from, Tales of Symphonia.

Holy...crap. That's a lot of plushies in my life time lol. Envy and Wrath are popular from Fullmetal Alchemist (my fav). Some people are big fans of those two. Maybe Yukito and Misuzu from Air or Yuuichi and Ayu from Kanon. Or human Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist. Hinata from Naruto would probably sell out fast. Like someone said before, people would go crazy for Vocaloid plushies. Chibi Vampire (Karin), Kamichama Karin, and Mermaid Melody are popular too.
Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist is also popular too. A lot of people like him or Izumi ^^

I'm not sure what the con is, so I'll just give any suggestions I can think of...

Video game characters could sell (link, peach, toad, mario, luigi, zelda, a zora, KH characters, FF characters...), as well as anime/manga (Naruto, Bleach, Fruits Basket) or popular books/movies (Harry Potter characters, Star Wars characters, Firefly, star trek...)

You have LOTS of them so you can go wild, but I'd suggest making several of the most famous one, and considering batches (like a bag with 3 characters from the same series or something), but I'm sure you know your thing better than I do

Jesus christ
Its a freaking EMPIRE D: are you planning to sell these along with larger plushies? How much are you planning to sell the 3inch ones for? :0 SOmehow I like them a lot better.. cause they have mini clothing n_n

Bleach, Naruto and Death Note would be your.. security blanket series.. XDD
If you haven't heard of or seen the millions of fanart lurking around of COUNTRIES.. then I suggest you check out Hetalia: Axis Powers.. XDDD I know it'll be popular in the AA.. not sure about crafts, but yeah
Gurren Lagann I've told you about... oh, and there seems to be a Vocaloid craze that I don't quite understand, though the character designs are quite nice......

My army shall rule the CC! (this is why I've been telling you to start mass producing cuz that's what I've been doing, lol!)
I've also got about 30 larger plushies (the 10" ones).. I was originally planning on making 100 10" plushies, but then I decided to make these minis, so at this point, I don't have time to stick to the original plan! The 3" guys are probably going to be about 10$.

Which "countries" are your fave??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whitefrosty In reply to pheleon [2009-05-04 21:26:45 +0000 UTC]

LOL XD I HAVE been making stuff, but its so hard for me to mass-produce.. x__x so not worth it too, cause it takes so much work for me to make 1 cake, yet if I sell for more monies, I don't think ppl would buy, for something that small.... x___x *paranoid again*

I hope you're going to post some of your finished minis.. n__n

My favourites are: Prussia, USA, UK, Canada, Italy(North+South), Germany, France, Sweden, & CHINA!!!!

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2009-05-07 15:55:41 +0000 UTC]

How much do you sell your charms for? And your layered cakes are REALLY nice so you gotta sell them for more (but I guess mass producing ain't an option since it takes so long).

pfftt, finished minis won't be done any time soon since I'm moving onto 10" ones!

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2009-05-10 16:58:40 +0000 UTC]

I guess so, but I've seen manufactured cellphone charms of sanrio characters that sold for 12$ at some store downtown. For your layered uber complex ones that are more unique and take more time to make, price it higher. If it doesnt sell, you can post it online and I'm sure it will eventually sell.
I think 5$ should be for anything simple...but for your cakes with tons of berries and stuff, it can go for 7-10$ (espescially if you don't have many). I sold my gaara plushies last year for 50$ and they went really fast. People will throw their money for something they really like.

whitefrosty In reply to pheleon [2009-05-11 03:51:13 +0000 UTC]

hmmm.. but but.. thats..manufactured!! ...ahhhh yeah i think i'll change my prices now...lol DX *indecisive*
a plush, is understandable.. it's a plushie. D: but iunno ..my charms are so tiny.. like ..'that's it?!?' lol i feel bad for ripping ppl off DX *doesn't know how to do business*
true about the throwing money away thing.... hmmm.....
thank you, senpai ~
btw.. you're coming for all 3 days this time, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2009-05-12 16:16:19 +0000 UTC]

I know I know! Manufactured crap for 12$=crazy! Heck, some import cds sell for 50$... like friggin' audio cds! (and I am guilty of purchasing one since it was a super rare unknown goth metal band..) So you'd be surprised of what there is on the market, and what people BUY!!
I think you should solidify your prices when everything is finished. Whatever is really nice an unique and that you know someone will buy, price it higher (cuz there's no point of selling out stuff uber fast). There's no way you're ripping people off...think of how long it takes you to make 1 charm. I know that a 10" plush takes me 5-6 hours...so if I sell it for 40-50$, I'm scrapping by minimum wage, and I haven't even included cost of materials! Therefore, if anything, the crafters are being ripped off!
And no, I'm not going for all 3 days; I'm missing sunday. But it's sunday, and you didn't even go last year, and I was only there for a few hours.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whitefrosty In reply to pheleon [2009-05-12 22:22:03 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh yeah that's true..but I'm too cheap to buy those things, thats why I keep thinking other people are like that too... but thats prolly cause I'm so AZNN!!!! LOL DX

That's true!! Materials DX woah.. it takes you that long?? DX but I thought once you mass produce all the bodies, all thats left is the clothes and details DX lmao..
But I AGREE ABOUT RIPPING CRAFTERS OFF... In the CM ppl just work on a cg for 8 hours then print a million copies and thats it DX .... or so it seems. DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2009-05-14 03:22:08 +0000 UTC]

lol, and I buy expensive stuff cuz I'm not azn? LOL *is totally white-washed*

Ahhhh, plushies take me SO long because of the mad detail I put in them. Just their hair and eyes take up to 2 hours. Mass producing the bodies is actually the fast part. But there are so many damn parts...it's annoying how the human form has a lot of things in pairs (2 arms, meaning 2 sleeves...then two legs so two shoes...and then multiply that by 30, and that's the minimum number of handstitched things I gotta do..)

Well, I doubt the CM people only work for 8 hours. But if they did, they're making one hell of a profit!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whitefrosty In reply to pheleon [2009-05-15 00:27:56 +0000 UTC]

YES LOL...

HHAA I know how you feel.. I have to first make my stupid things, bake them, wait for them to cool, and paint+glaze several coats.. and omfg the thing that annoys me the most is freaking DUST because sometimes I get dust specks on my stuff and I can't remove it and it drives me crazyy..@__@!@@@!!!!!!!!!!! so I have to quality-check everything and AGHHHRSRSHRKJD DUSTTTT

Hell of a profit is right! I know someone that made $2k last year.. DX and now I can't even come close to half that amount.. ah well, I guess it's not all about the money..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2009-05-16 22:58:15 +0000 UTC]

LOL! DUST! That reminds me of when I did intaglio print, we'd have to prep the copper plate and coat it with ground (which is a wax) and we'd have to be careful for LINT! (or dust) cuz otherwise, when we put it in the acid, it'll bite in those areas and fuck up our plate! SO I know how you feel!

Ack 2k? That was my goal!! I wanted to make 4k worth of merch, and expect to sell half. But it looks like I'll only be able to make 2k worth of merch, and god knows how much will sell!

Last year, with my horrible disorganisation and absence, I still managed to make 500$..so I'm hoping that being organised this year will increase my sales.
