Description This L plushie is a prototype; I want to sell a bunch of these guys at Anime North. Once I finish developping the final product, I'll send this deviation to my scraps...therefore, please comment instead of fave!!

I NEED YOUR HELP/OPINION!!! Since this is a work in progress, I have a few questions:

1. What do you think of the anatomy? Should the head and feet be bigger? (does chibi sell better than proportionate?)

2. I glued his hands to his knees because I want him to "be in that position". However, now that I think of it, this may not be ideal: would you buy a plushie that is already pre-positioned, or do you prefer one that you can position yourself?

3. I plan on selling these guys for 20$CND at the convention; is that too much, too little, or just right? How much would you be willing to spend on a plush at a con?? I'm so clueless when it comes to prices!!

If there are any other comments you'd like to make, be vicious! If you think it's ugly, creepy, and you'd throw it out if someone gave it to you as gift, then please tell me! Or, on the other hand, if you don't think anything is wrong with it, and that you think it's cute, and you'd buy one, please tell me that as well!! I really need feedback!!

Thanks.

Β I think it's great, keep up with the amazing work Jess. xo

It varies on the plush that you make and that character whether to do it as a chibi or a proportionate plush.

Position yourself plush.

Just right but depending on how long it takes you to make a plush, per hour rate...

Please talk to me and stop ignoring me.

I really feel bullied by this treatment that i am getting from you.

I have apologised over and over and over again!

Again i am terribly sorry and would like your forgiveness and make amends and be friends again. please.

1. I think I'd actually make the head a bit bigger (not TOO much) and make the hands and feet a bit smaller. If you take a look at most chibis, their heads are the biggest part of the body. I think that makes them extra cute! Another plush is that you can really play with the eyes and facial expression that way.

2. I think that the hands glued to the feet would be good if you wanted him to be more like a sculpture, but you're probably gonna be selling to kids who like to snuggle their plushies and make them do funny things. xD So I think you should make some with wire bases, but most with just stuffing--that way, they're extra cuddly! I've found that people like soft, squishy plushies the best. x3

3. I agree completely with momoiro-machiko--people at cons will spend almost ANYTHING if it means they can find their favorite character in the form of a plush. I'd bump the price up to 30. You have to take into consideration the time and effort that goes into making them, as well as the materials.

Overall, I think this is a super cute plushie! I think on the next model you should try making the eyes a lit bigger--I like the shape and style of them, but I think you should just change the size a bit.

Thanks for the feeback!

I appreciate your advice about squishy cuddly plushies.... Although, I might just gear my merch towards a mature audience.. I dunno, I shall see.

No prob!

Haha, that's very understandable! But you should also keep in mind that there are tons of young, aspiring fangirls that have been saving their money all year just for cons. xD For you, I think it'd be really cool to have a mix--your work could appeal to lots of different people. :3

I think the head should be bigger and the feet smaller,
he shouldn't be prepositioned and like others have said, stick to your strengths!
$20 seems kinda cheap, especially when 4.5inch plastic figures of L are $25-$35.

oooers ... hmm aren't L plushies licensed... since I see them everywhere.. >_O;;

Well, I don't make plushies and I fail at sewing so I really can't say much... however it's fun to move around the arms and legs and stuff ..... XD As for the price... $20 is a good price... ^^

pheleon In reply to whitefrosty [2008-03-25 23:35:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, the ones that are commercially made are certainly licensed...but mine doesn't look like it, so it's fine! L plushies weren't on the no-no list, so I think I'm in the clear.

COINCIDENTALLY, i've got a friend who've just requested me to make her L. And she wants to hug it to sleep. So i think ppl normally prefer a non pre-positioned, cos that way, they can play and make poses. If now, all they can do with it is chuck it at the wall and watch it bounce.

I think the hands and feet are too big for this proportion. But chibi-sized L are sooooo common. Unfortunately, i think they sell better cos they're cheaper than the more expensive fully proportionate ones and girls are suckers for kawaii stuff.

Not sure bout the price but $20 is cheap. I've seen an UGLY plastic Naruto the size of a basketball, selling at over $100.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to orenji82 [2008-03-25 23:31:15 +0000 UTC]

chuck it at the wall and watch it bounce LOL!!!! OKAY, I certainly don't want that to happen, so NO pre-positioned plushies, FOR SURE! LOL!!!

Yeah, I think I'll do a semi-chibi one...because full-out chibi is 1. very common, like you said, and 2. not my forte (I just can't seem to get myself to super-deform the body!)

And I guess I will decide on the price when I finalize the product.

Thanks for the feedback!

but. T__T i WANT to buy even if i DONT HAV the money to buy YET.
ohh..i felt like asking you to higher up ur prices.......but i am scared....some other ppl like me couldn't pay. =v=;; BUT its up to you. *v* I think those who CAN go to con are mostly rich ppl...so i think they could afford the price. XD Just, you must be happy with the price...

AND HAVE FUN!!

You don't have to be a plushie-maker to comment on the plush itself! In fact, I think it's the plushie-luvers that must comment since I make them for you folks!!

I think I'll decide on the price once I finalize the prototype. I've never been to a con, and I trust *momoiro-machiko 's judgement since she's been to AN08 since the very beginning. I'll see how it goes.

Hold on an save up for Tsuna and Yaayu first.

1. I think his head could be a tad bigger..

but then again, I'm a sucker for big headed chibi plushies..O_O;;

2. I think it would be neat to have it so the buyer could position the doll, instead of gluing the arms to the knees...but if it ends up being more difficult than it's worth, don't bother.

3. I think..20 is too cheap. You could probably go up to 30. I find at conventions, people throw money around like...confetti.

Think about it in this perspective, I've sold out of my porings for the last couple years, and I sell them at $15 each.. :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to momoiro-machiko [2008-03-25 23:15:30 +0000 UTC]

Yup, the head is definitely going to be a bit bigger; I find it wayyy too squat.

I've never been to a con, so I really don't know what people's tendencies are! Like confetti, LOL!! What madness have I enrolled myself in?!? Holy mother, 15$!! How big are those things though!?! I hope I can get a discount price on one of your mochi ...

Confetttttti, it's a celebration LOL

hmmm, porings are..5" x 5" x 6", or something weird like that...
They're hard to ship when people buy them @__@ I have to find strange boxes...

AA patron discount.. + neighbouring AA artist discount = I shall give you a discount X3

I've never sold mochi at the con O_o; so we'll see how it goes...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to momoiro-machiko [2008-03-26 22:45:15 +0000 UTC]

Since the porings are squishy (or.. at least, not fragile/breakable!) why don't you simply ship them in those bubblewrap bags, instead of finding strange boxes?

discount! You'll get the same; if you want anything from my table.

And the mochi will sell...I'll MAKE SURE OF IT!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

momoiro-machiko In reply to pheleon [2008-03-30 04:19:17 +0000 UTC]

I forgot the reasoning my sister gave me for not shipping them in bubble wrap bags..., but finding strange boxes isn't that hard. I just follow my parents to No Frills or Costco and grab some of the boxes there :3 Even my work place has lots of boxes that I use for plushies and stuff.

We, artists, like the word discount

I want to plushify Takoyaki... we'll see how it turns out. I've already created a button design for it (because I was being random on photoshop), but maybe it would be a cute plush.. :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to momoiro-machiko [2008-03-30 21:51:39 +0000 UTC]

lol, I'm sure takoyaki would be cute! I'd like to see how you make them. I can't seem to be able to write my 15-paged essay, so I've been doing random sewing stuff, and I made a family of onigiri....they look pretty standard; I'm not the best at "cute" stuff.

momoiro-machiko In reply to pheleon [2008-04-01 01:37:17 +0000 UTC]

MMmmm Onigiri :3
Somehow all the things I come up with end up looking cute whether I like it or not.. @__@; I can't get the cute-ness factor out~!! --____--;

My trail run with takoyaki didn't work out every well...O_O I looked more like a squished takoyaki..HAHA

He look fantastic!! I love his hair and I was going to ask how you did his awesome eyes too, but you've already answered that question...

Anatomy: Some people do perfer chibi plushies, but I say play your strengths. While I'm sure you could make an adorable chibi, good-looking proportionate plushies are rare and you rock at making them! Besides, you seem to like making proportionate ones better.

I agree that most fans would probably prefer to postion their plushies themselves. But since this is L's signiture position and it is an akward one, you could try putting magnets in his hands and knee if you want. That way you have his unique position and and other options as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to SeltsamPlush [2008-03-25 23:02:12 +0000 UTC]

Magnets! What an innovative idea! However, that would require more effort and supplies...and I don't think it'll be worth selling for 20$ (I'd have to raise the price.)

You're very right; I shall play to my strengths. I can't chibify for the life of me, so I should stick to proportionate.

thanks for commenting.

I'm not sure what the transfer is from Canada to the States, but I definitely think you're undercharging for something that awesome.

Custom, high quality plushies can go from $40-$80 (US) at a large enough con. Especially with nifty features like being poseable or something like magnets. As far as proportionate goes, I've never had a problem with it and completely agree with sticking to your strengths. It really makes your work stand out, and might be why people are more willing to pay a little extra.

well, the head and the face are great!
the feet are very big i think ._.
I preffer a no pre-positioned plushie, becuase u can ''lay'' with them and turn bored, or difficult to transportate etc, if u wanna make it positioned, the hands looks strange maybe you can put less cotton (or the thing with u fill them) and glued/sew like hi is holding/taking (i dunno wich verb here is corret my englis sucks) his knees.
The t shirt looks weird, but if its a prototype dosent matters.
20$can, are 12.74€ i think they are very cheap , also depens the size , and the time u pass making them plus the material price.
Then the positioned u can make the with wire so people can make their own position.
Uhmm i think is all..
oHH , also u can make the notebook or an apple , or both and sell them with L , like a pack, L with compliments xD i think is nice.

sorry for my english

Yeah, I don't think people like pre-positioned plushes all that much! So he's probably not going to be like that.

The shirt was done in a few seconds; it can easily be fixed.

haha, compliments. Nice idea; I'll see whether I have any time.

I prefer plushies that are either not positioned at all, or like filloziffyrox said, ones that have wire in them so they're bendable. But I do love his hair! And I'm wondering how you did the eyes...they look incredible. ^_^

eyes= black sharpie/pigment liner+white acrylic paint. It's permanent, and it works wonders

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

filloziffyrox [2008-03-24 20:19:01 +0000 UTC]

1. the anatomy is good on the plushie, it's good how it is.

2. people don't really go for prepositioned plushies. Some plush makers can put this type of wire in it so that the body parts are bendable to the buyers wishes so they can position them themselves. However, in some cases, perhaps L's, they would go for it because that is the way he is most of the time.

3. $20 is a good price, I think. It really depends on the size of the plushie. As you may realize, plushies that are 7-8 inches tall go for $13 even more, so I think that is a good price for your plushie seeing as he seems to be bigger than 7-8 inches.

He really is an adorable plushie! It makes me want one ^_^
