Description
Here's the pattern: [link]Save the image somewhere on your computer, and it should be the right size to print. I don't know how mac works, but with PC, when you view the image in Windows Photo Gallery, select "Print" and uncheck the box where it says "fit picture to frame" (this is so that the size isn't distorted in any way). Even if it's a little off, it shouldn't matter too much.
OKAY. I know these instructions are rather crappy...but I'm still waiting on a friend to help me photograph while I work. Therefore, I included these intructions you see above; the colours refer to where the pieces match up to. You basically straight stitch those together.
So this is the pattern I used for mini-Gaara .
Therefore, it'll roughly be a 6" plush.
There are a few details that I can't explain without pictures (e.g. connecting the limbs to the body) so you can either a) figure it out yourself since it's not rocket science or b) wait patiently for me to upload more instuctions.
Oh, and you can use any type of fabric... I used craft velour bought off the net from here: [link]
or felt should work.. (but it's harder to paint on, so that's why I don't use it)
In summary, if people are interested in this pattern, I shall improve the instructions in the future.
Whoa, this is my first deviation for 2009! I've been inactive for so long!

Is this the same pattern you use for your 11'' plushies, only shrunk down? If not, will you ever make a tutorial/pattern for your larger plushies?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
pheleon In reply to CaptainFudgie [2009-03-20 01:36:00 +0000 UTC]
No it's not. And I will probably never make a plush for larger plushies since I use lycra, which is stretchy, so the sizing becomes really unpredictable, and it becomes way too complicated to explain...since I also sometimes give them armature. You can try to size up this pattern. I don't know whether it'll work. But the head pattern is roughly the same.

*looks around* This is exactly (emphasis (sp?) on exactly) what you used for your Gaara plushie? Then this is the exact think I've been looking for! (there are tutorials...but there are some idiots like me who can't draw things that well) You have no idea how happy it made me when I found this....

pheleon In reply to warriorofthewind [2009-03-09 02:28:55 +0000 UTC]
Yup, it's what I used for the Gaara plush. Additional instructions are on the way (I managed to get the step-by-step photos done, but I haven't had the time to put it all together yet). Glad that it's of help.
(if you make something with it, be sure to credit the pattern so others are able to profit from the help as well!)

That's really neat! It's always cool to see how other plushie makers make their patterns! The head pattern is really different but it makes sense when I think about it...
You think you're behind... I'm just now commenting. And I haven't posted this year....
How was your reading week?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
pheleon In reply to SeltsamPlush [2009-03-03 03:30:06 +0000 UTC]
haha, yeah, the head pattern evolved a lot. Since I try to sew as much as I can on the machine, I had to develop a pattern that would be easy to sew with it. (it's very machine-friendly )
ahhh, reading week wasn't as productive as I would have liked it to be. I got plush stuff done, but schoolwork? I still have tons to do!!

I have yet to make friends with a sewing machine... But I can see how that pattern would get along with one. My mom's old sewing machine was, putting it kindly, tempermental. She got a new one for Christmas, so I'll have to try really hard to learn how it works.
Especially with another Civil War dress to make...

pheleon In reply to SeltsamPlush [2009-03-08 01:15:17 +0000 UTC]
Oh sewing machines are easy. It's kind of a pain sewing a straight piece of fabric onto a curve one...and zippers are annoying... but all in all, it saves on a lot of time (and the stitches are tighter/more consistent). Therefore, get acquainted with that machine, espescially if you want to dish out some merch for an artist alley!
You're from Texas, right? Have you heard of this con called Anime Matsuri (it's in Houston)? Apparently, they're having Miyavi as the guest performer...but it's so weird cuz Miyavi is a BIG name in Japan, but Anime Matsuri seems to be a really small and unknown con...

SeltsamPlush In reply to pheleon [2009-03-15 23:38:37 +0000 UTC]
I think the sewing machine and I are getting along well! My little plushies are too small for it, but it'll be a big help on the bigger ones! I'm so excited to get started on some serious con plushies!!!
Yeah, I am in Texas, but I haven't heard of Anime Matsuri. I don't really keep close tabs on cons though, just the one in Dallas cuz it's so close. Miyavi is a j-rocker? I'm totally not on top of the music scenes...

pheleon In reply to SeltsamPlush [2009-03-20 01:46:01 +0000 UTC]
Oh, well, I look forward to your creations.
lol, I only know of all these cons since I've got random people asking me whether I'm going to them and having a table to sell my stuff! (they don't seem to look at my frontpage, and see "location: canada montreal"..meaning no, I can't travel to texas or california just out of a whim! ) And no sweat about not knowing about Miyavi! I always knew of him, but I only got acquainted to his music a few months back when I randomly decided to youtube his stuff! I'm pretty lost with music scenes as well.. I just pick up random music that I find interesting.

I understand the pattern! May have to try it sometime. ^^ Thanks for sharing it!
And thanks for the fabric link, I haven't used craft velour but have been thinking about trying it, I need a soft cuddly skin alternative to robe velour (which I can never get in the right colors).

I've been having good luck with suedecloth, though it's also stretchy--in fall the fabric stores tend to get it in earth/skin tones. Your sewing machine handles stretchy fabrics alright then? I tried to sew a doll on a little handheld machine but it yanked the stretchy fabric down into the machine and made a mess. ;.; Maybe it just takes a proper machine...

pheleon In reply to Threnodi [2009-08-16 14:16:43 +0000 UTC]
It could be the needle you're using. (for stretchy thing fabrics, it's best to use a thin needle). Or those little handheld machines may just be inadequate. I have a regular machine...and it's really old, but good nonetheless.
