Description
"I'm glad you're okay..." Korrin said, trying to imitate the appropriate tone."Are you though?" came Shiro's stern voice, causing her to look at him. "Because you don't sound like it at all."
Korrin visibly stiffened.
"You don't think I've noticed? At first I thought it was just because you hadn't warmed up to us. But the more time you spent with us, the more I realized it. You are different. You show next to no emotion and you don't really seem to care about what happens to us. I heard about the way you told off Lance. I'm not sure what kind of person you are...but you walk around like an empty shell."
And there it was, Korrin thought. There was definitely no hiding it now. Even after being around people for her entire life, she couldn't even pretend to be one. She just wasn't made that way. She was made for something different. She wasn't made to feel.
Sighing she walked over to Shiro's bed and sat down next to him, staring down at her hands in her lap.
"What...does it mean...to be human?" she asked quietly.
Shiro looked confused. "What do you mean?"
Korrin locked her violet eyes on his steel grey ones. "To you, what does it mean to be human?"
"I...I'm not sure." He was caught off guard by this question and was trying to come up with an answer. "I guess--to me--being human means being able to be your own person. To have the freedom to be anyone you want and to be able to connect with people around you." He paused and saw a look of desperation in Korrin's empty eyes. He continued in a more gentler, caring tone, "Being human means to have emotions. To cry when you're sad or smile when you're happy. To be able to make life long friends...or to fall in love..."
When he stopped speaking, Korrin just stared at him, absorbing his words, trying to figure out what all of that felt like. She could tell Shiro was trying to figure out why she asked. She broke eye contact and let her gaze fall to the floor.
"I want to know what that feels like..." she said.
"What do you mean?" Shiro furrowed his brow.
"I'm not...human." Her words seemed to echo the emptiness that was inside her.
Shiro shifted his weight on his bed, trying to make sure he heard right. "You're...what?"
"You heard me. I'm just like you said, a shell. I can feel no emotions on my own. I was raised around humans and have been around them almost all my life. I watched them carefully, trying to copy them. But in the end, it didn't matter. I can't feel empathy, or sympathy, or sadness, happiness...or love." She paused, a heavy silence falling around the room. She told Shiro of her past and how she came to be here. He listened intently, trying to comprehend it all.
"So you were created--"
"To be a weapon," Korrin finished. "I know it is a lot of information to take in. But I promise I'm telling the truth."
Shiro didn't respond right away. "I'm sorry, I'm just trying to process this all. I mean it explains a lot; everything, actually."
"You can go ahead and say it, you know. I don't have any feelings for you to hurt."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Korrin stood up and walked across the room. "Every time someone finds out what I am, they call me a freak...or a monster."
Shiro couldn't help but chuckle, earning him a confused look from Korrin. "We're in outer space," he said. "There are far stranger things in this universe then a star walking around in a human shell."
"So...you're not afraid of me?"
Shiro stood up and walked over to her, a small smile on his face. "Not in the least. But I have to apologize for the way I have been treating you, it wasn't right."
Korrin shook her head. "You were unaware of my condition. You were merely acting on the fact that you thought I was human. It's really my fault for not telling you."
"I understand why you didn't. Still--" he extended his robotic hand, "let's call it even?"
Korrin nodded and shook his hand. As soon as her skin touched his arm, a warm feeling spread throughout her body and she felt a smile form on her lips, a genuine smile.

I'm so happy that Voltron season 6 is finally out! So I decided to do another piece with my OC, Korrin, and Shiro. I think I'm really getting the hang of fake screenshots. I'm super happy with how this turned out! Even the background looks halfway decent (haha). Anyways, this scene is from my Voltron fanfic "Becoming Human" (Ch. 9 "The Truth") and if you haven't checked it out yet, I urge you to please go give it a read! Enjoy!
