I think it's possible....most conquers in real life had wives. He probably doesn't give a damn about those who die on China's side but judging by that he's respectful to his men seems to hint that he cares more about his own people. He'd probably fall for a skilled Hun woman since Huns were actually much more gender equal then China. They actually let women be soldiers and fight alongside men. Which is why he didn't underestimate Mulan even when she revealed she was a woman so he knows that women are as capable as men.
If Shan Yu was actually given a wife in the film that would be awesome! They'd be a bloodthirsty kickass couple.
