Description

Apologies, as this piece is a tad gory. In no way do I mean offense to animal lovers watching me, especially since I'm a critter lover myself who hates seeing harm come to any living creature. The story does contain a happy ending, that is a promise!

This image represents a specific key moment in Pheonixx's new "cursed" life, the first of three to be exact! The Ritual of Balance had failed to fully defeat her inner rage. This left her not only unable to regain her human form, but in danger of becoming a feral Worgen. Which would have her living out the rest of her days in the wilds, solely knowing nothing but anger.

"Pheonix had often heard tales of Jormungars, but never thought to see, let alone befriend it!

Phe was unsure how to keep going, she aimlessly wandered Azeroth, her Worgen rage slowly eating at what dwelled of her human self. She ruthlessly hunted the very race who stole everything from her, the Forsaken. Some how, Pheonixx's hunt inevitably ushered her to the remotest part of Kalimdor, Winterspring. The hour was getting late, and this snow-covered terrain was unfamiliar. Pheonix discovered a nearby cave and instinctively decided it best to shelter there for the frigid evening. Scarcely did she realize, the cavern was already home to a creature not encountered in these lands.

Despite the cave being almost pitch black upon entering, Pheonixx's exceptional Worgen eyesight permitted her to carefully examine the bleak surroundings. As she journeyed deeper, there were a few moonbeams of light that lite what appeared to be the back of the cave. This instantly drew her eyes to a curled figure, whose scent was unfamiliar. Phe's keen sense of smell did accurately detect an unmistakable hint of blood in the raw air. Was this unknown creature injured? She sniffed the air again; a whiff of infection hit her nose. Whatever this wounded creature was, it required help.

Curious, Pheonix approached the creature, would it lash out at her? As she got closer, the beast gradually rose its head. Phe could instantly clearly identify what the beast was, a white Jormungar and a young one at that! The Jormungar lowered its head once more and let out a pathetic whimper, evidently the creature's will to live was fading. This became even more apparent when Pheonixx placed her hand on the body of the giant worm and it didn't attempt to defend itself.

One thing was for certain, they both desperately needed each other. Phe, exhausted and dirty from her aimless wandering, decided it was time to pause. She sat down before the young Jormungar, who once again rose it's head to acknowledge her presence. As if reading each other's thoughts, both Pheonixx and the worm-like creature leaned in eventually their heads gently touching. A single tear ran down Pheonixx's cheek, not only did she sense a great connection to this beast but Phe could feel the flame of her inner Worgen rage begin to finally subside. At that key moment, Pheonix was instantly filled with a renewed sense of ultimate purpose.

Even if her efforts didn't pay off, Phe was bound and determined to attempt and save the life of this wormy beast. Pheonix, already exhausted would passionately devote the next several days and sleepless nights, tirelessly tending to the terrible wounds of the young worm. She even went as far as to force-feed the unfortunate creature so that it could regain some much-needed strength. Gradually the creature's energy started returning however, Phe began to carefully consider how the beast would react once healed. Ultimately, she wouldn't let this thought deter her from doing the right thing.

At long last, one evening, Phe collapsed from exhaustion and naturally drifted into a deep sleep. Pheonix slumbered for what she perceived to be days and likely would have continued to sleep if she had not been awoken by something gently nudging at her. Pheonix began opening her eyes and was greeted by the face of a drooling tongue-wagging Jormungar. In alarm, she jumped nervously to her feet only to be pounced on and knocked to the ground by the young worm, who started smearing her face with many slobbery wet wormy kisses, much like a puppy dog. This behavior was both shocking, yet welcomed by Pheonix as she began laughing for the first time in months. It was apparent the worm was thankful to have been saved.

Pheonix promptly decided to name the young Jormungar, even if they would eventually go their separate ways. “I will call you Mudwiggle,” she said humbly. In what Pheonix assumed was excitement, Mudwiggle spit a glob of green goo in her face. The two have been inseparable ever since. Not only that, but Phe undoubtedly discovered a much-needed reason to keep going and the true beginnings of her Worgen rage finally subsiding at long last.

Very few Hunters throughout Azeroth's history have been known to successfully tame a Jormungar, let alone befriend one. Pheonixxfoxx would ultimately be known to many as not only the Mother of Jormungars but the Tamer of Beasts!"

There you have it, the fascinating story of how Pheonixxfoxx and Mudwiggle met. Not only that, but as mentioned above a key moment in Phe finding a personal sense of purpose and humanity again. Though hard to tell, I'd like to point out that Phe's eyes are more "beast"-like compared to the usual "softer" eyes I use for her.

I'm rather surprised by how quickly this piece came together. It was as if this particular rendering was naturally meant to come into existence for me.

Edit - Changes were initiated after getting feedback and being shown a technique in GIMP that makes Mudwiggle's visible wounds look gorier. As always, I appreciate not only the feedback but the lessons that have aided me to improve my technique.
