-_- I didn't favorite art to have a bunch of this in storage crap all over in my favorites. I deleted them all. This was a dumb idea.
It's a public art site so that we can view the public art.

That's true...what's the point for keeping things in public when it's not meant to be? How do you delete those faved artworks but already in storage?

I dunno if I actually deleted them or not, but if you edit your favorites there is an option for each picture to 'hide' it' which seems close enough.

This feature was unnecessary. They could have put more effort in creating a feature on here that wasn't useless like this storage crap :/ IMO Dev is an art community site and you post art work that you are proud of and want to show to other people. If they are going to post their art here and then turn around and have it in storage so others can't view then you are better off not wasting space on this site. Put it on a USB drive if you want to back it up and not show other people or up load it to a site that is better suited for storage. This is an art site where you SHOW others your art work, not a storage site.

I've been here for nearly six years, and with being here that long comes a SLEW of artwork, some that I go back to and am none too proud of. Until recently, I had a number of pieces in storage because I was ashamed of them or thought they looked like crap. (And they had been up at least two years to the public) Now, almost everything in my gallery is exposed.
As for the whole "store it on a USB" thing. Some of the art files and poems I have on the site (all poems in storage) are the only copies I have any more because I lost the original files when my computer crashed. (And back then I didn't have a USB) You never know when the USB might break or the computer might get infected with something to the point of you needing to purge your system so having something on the art site where you post your art to store it is very nice. If only for the fact that sometimes it's the only copy of the picture you have.
Most people don't post their art just to store it. It usually takes something personal to want to put it in storage. Either that or people get tired of getting [x] amount of favorites on something they now think sucks, but instead of purging it from the system entirely and possibly losing a copy of it they put it in storage.
Really though, any artist that grows and evolves art wise tends to become less and less proud of their older works. So while I understand what you are saying as far as this is a site where you post things you are proud of, it becomes hard to be proud of something when you have surpassed it so far that all you see are mistakes. From my experience, many artists have self esteem issues and vehemently shove away older, what they feel are inferior works, especially when they have made leaps and bounds since then.
But at any rate, I hear what you are saying, but the storage feature is nice. The stupid little icon that they created for it is not.

It's fine. I totally understand what you are saying and I now understand why some people put their art in storage. Hopefully Dev can do away with that storage icon. Maybe have the artist put it in storage without showing people like with that icon that it is in storage. The storage could be like a backup thing for art and without there being an icon or a blank blatantly letting people know that that deviation and if the deviation is in storage maybe it can automatically undo favs because right now, we can't unfav the stuff that is in storage.

That's true. Then again, even though they want to implement such system, they ought to give limit to how much one could store their file, and make it private so others won't see as well.
There are people who really don't trust their own computer, even USB, thus they rely on PB or dA to store instead. I don't know if their computer is that bad or what, but backing things up in real life sounds dangerous for them.
I think you are right. Sadly people might find this system useful in some way, while others just find that icon extremely annoying.

You know, the storage area was meant for people who want to temporarily remove their submissions from their gallery, but don't want to delete them yet, so they can put those submissions back in their gallery in the possible future in case they want to change their minds. And it's usually supposed to be private. The recent DA galleries update circumvents this.

I know that; you can basically remove them from feature where people can only see that from "browse". But I find this kind of annoying as something private is not meant to me showing others like "Hey, I am hiding my submission~!" It doesn't even make any sense to me...

I guess I don't have much of an issue with the storage. Except that a stamp on my Shoutboard was in storage. :/ What's the point of a stamp being in storage anyways if you can't use it?

They should at least take it down or something...but I don't know about it because it might be possible to disable thumbnail for those stored file.

I have two devs in storage. XD But it's because I want to know I have to work on them without releasing them to the public via scraps. Though I can tell it might be annoying.

Well, there are varies of reasons for doing that, but then again, it's pretty irresponsible when they really don't want it to be viewed in the later time but not remove it.

Haha, I've been throwing pictures of mine in storage for years. Storage images never had an image before and just disappeared out of trace from all... but now they give people a heads up/hint that things are hidden away now. Damnit! Now how am I suppose to store away my stuff in peace without alerting people..? =__=;

Simple; store it in your computer or make a personal website and store it there, with more security to hide it from the public.

The computer isn't the safest place if it crashes then you loose everything, and I don't have the money for a personal website. I store things on here cause at the same time I don't want to delete all the comments I got as well.

If you need backup, you can always get a thumbdrive to store the pictures. Of course you may store some in here or any image hosting sites, but then again, it's better to keep them out of the internet for those extremely important one.

I post art here to post art, I store instead of delete, and I already told you why. I don't trust thumbdrives cause they can be broken too, or lost, they're only good for transferring information from one computer to another more easily in my opinion. And other image hosting sites can't hold the image sizes I want to store at times.

I am talking about thumbdrive, which is something external, not inside the computer nor its essential hardware, so it's different from computer. Also, if you take care of your computer and make backups and store in something beside the computer, it won't be dangerous too.
Then again, it's your choice to decide what to do with your pictures. People store them in many places, some are like you: they store here, but some might store in Photobucket and such.
