Description Testing out a new style, so thought I'd try it out on Shadowrun for the SNES.
A long overdue revisit of this old piece in my gallery.

Can't wait for Shadowrun Returns!

At the risk of becoming a VITAS-infected pariah, I will state that I liked the Genesis game better. More replay value, in my opinion.

They each have their own advantages. The genesis one is a lot more sandbox like, giving it a lot more replay value, but there's a lot more grinding and repetitive tasks.
I think I'm mostly drawn to the characters as well as the music found in the SNES version.Β

It's been so long since I've played it. All I remember about the music is Kitsune shaking her tail at a club/disco.

Its interface is a little cumbersome and takes some getting used to, but it does have some very unique gameplay.Β

It has this great industrial soundtrack that is quite unlike any other soundtrack I've heard from games of that era.Β

I just plowed through most of this game tonight up until after this point depicted in the picture.Β  I did it in great fondness and remembrance of this game that I loved so much when I was a kid, and because of Shadowrun Returns.Β  This is exactly the crew I had set up, too.Β  Frogtounge, Norbert, and Kitsune sitting around twiddling their thumbs as I finish hacking a terminal.Β  Good shit.Β  I found out that if you do get to the top of the building with Kitsune and any number of other hirelings, they all die instantly except for your dear Kitsune in the cut-scene gunfight that ensues on the roof.Β  That's pretty poignant for a game from 93.Β  Now I can get back to SR from my snes hiatus, haha.

That game had a lot of awesome moments, that's for sure!

I think I knew that, sad to see someone like Norbert die in an instant hale of gunfire!

Very cool.

Have you read Neuromancer or the Burning Chrome collection by William Gibson? I think you would love those stories.

I think I've read a little bit of neuromancer. But I'd love to finish it, just hardly ever have the time to read.

Thanks, I'll have to read these!

I haven't really entirely decided. It's either Frogtongue, Oriface, or Hamfist.

I'd go with frogtounge or Orifice hamfist never sticks around long and yo never really need another decker sides yourself.Remember runner gun loaded, headdown,no dealing with dragons.

I think I've usually gone with Frotongue.

Cheers chummer!

I'm digging the ears in the background there.

But seriously, this is an awesome piece. Not only does it bring realism to SR, it also delivers a spot on ambiance for the setting. And with barely anything visible in the background, that's quite a feat. Great work!

I'm only just diving into giving my figures a setting to exist in, so this is something I aspire to accomplish.

It really seems like lighting is the key. The way you've done the lighting in this piece, you can tell there's far more going on than what's pictured in the image. It's awesome, really.

Charles Dance is a great reference for that character! Nice choice!

Norbert, the craziest dwarf around!

Yeah, with the game being made in the early 90's, I'm sure the artists working on the game were looking at actors who were popular at the time.

All the pictures on this new style feels quite good to me. The shading is abstract but the characters, objects and background are well enough defined. It feels really nice.
It feels more like a traditional painting than a digital one despite being clearly digital. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it feels like that.

Yayyy, it's Kitsune, Norbert and... Frogtongue? Not sure about the last one. The woman on the trid is Maria Mercurial, though, no doubt there.

Anyway, the new style looks neat. I like the red and blue lighting.

I'm also eager to play this game. Although they could've done without Jake, that guy's a gamebreaker.

Phobos-Romulus In reply to PlushKraken [2013-05-21 21:16:00 +0000 UTC]

Probably Frogtongue. Or whoever's the most powerful orc. You got all the references right though!

Thanks, was super excited to find out about ties to the SNES classic.

PlushKraken In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2013-05-22 18:44:22 +0000 UTC]

And I'm certain it's Frogtongue. The other two orc runners are Hamfist (weak Decker) and Orifice (medium Streetsam).

Phobos-Romulus In reply to PlushKraken [2013-05-22 20:21:09 +0000 UTC]

Sounds about right.

I can't remember, were there any other hirable Dwarves, or was Norbert the only one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PlushKraken In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2013-05-23 16:37:58 +0000 UTC]

Norbert's the only one. No love for the little bearded guys.

Come to think of it, there are no Troll runners to hire at all. This game is discriminating metas on a meta level... ouch, the pun!!
