The fanart section of The Shoryuken Forums hosted something several years ago called “CSFAC” or Character Select Fan Art Challenge, which is basically a weekly challenge of drawing every character from a certain fighting game. After a several year hiatus, CSFAC is back, this time with SFV!
I’m falling behind, so I’m combining the first couple of weeks- R.Mika and Rashid.

Oh yeah, been around quite a while. Started as a term to describe generic characters in fiction, but it's a term that has since been abused. It's also the name of an awful feminist site complaining about every little 'sexist' thing in fiction and pop culture as if they have more importance than things going on in the real world.

Rashid might be my least favorite new character in street fighter, his outfit seems so generic and I have never been a fan of SF characters that use machines/ use weapons. Your art looks good tho (went on a tangent there sorry!)

I wholeheartedly agree. I think he might be my least favorite design from SF, like, ever. I feel as though most of SF's characters represent their home countries really well in terms of design without having to resort to really easy stereotypes(most characters in SF2 feel a bit like stereotypes, but there are great accents about their design that make them better than just a stereotype) but Rashid is nothing more than a hollow stereotype. I'm not even really calling it out as a 'racist stereotype', I just find stereotypes to be incredibly boring, and Rashid is the worst offender.

You hit the nail on the head there. Its like you said its not that Rashid design is racist or anything its just generic. "Yep hes dressed like hes from the middle east all right" Its like designing an American character and just putting him in some shirts and jeans. Look at Terry Bogard he basically wears just that, but its highlighted by his red vest and hat along with his personality. I feel like Rashid needed something like that, no big deal tho. The other 3 new guys are pretty strong in my opinion. Necali looks like nothing I have ever seen in a Street Fighter game, Laura looks like she could have been in the roster all along and F.A.N.G. over the top campiness is really growing on me.

Yeah, they're definitely better than Rashid! Necali's definitely interesting, my only slight gripe with him is that he looks like a character that might fit better in say, Tekken or something. Laura's cool too, one of the best newcomers from the past two installments. FANG is definitely interesting, but the way he's modeled doesn't fit at all, otherwise, I'm not as off put by him as I was at first.
Overall though, I'll definitely say that SFV's newcomers are much stronger than SFIV's. Except for Juri, SFIV's new cast really sucked I thought, they ranged from okay or inappropriate to really god-awful.
