You are soooo late in learning that the movie was based on a book series. lol
It's called "Guardians of the children". There are three novels and two picture books. The novels are about North, Bunnymund, and Toothiana and the picture books are about the Man in the Moon (MiM) and Sandman.
From what I've seen, I think that Pitch's story is in Bunnymund's book. But I'm not completely sure.

I. am. getting. these. books. And Pitch's story is the main reason why. All throughout Rise of the Guardians, I was like "there has to be more to Pitch, there has to be..." and then when I looked... Your picture is beautiful. You did a fantastic job.

I thought the exact same thing. They added enough hints to show there WAS something underlying but they didn't show anything that proved it.

Someone suggested that they may use a sequel (if RotG starts doing well in the box office) to explore Pitch's past. And since the director said he wanted to show North's past, I think it could happen. After all, wasn't Pitch like a key component to North's?

No, but it has been foreshadowed. Pitch said that he wanted to know about his family and his tooth got knocked out. I believe that tooth will play an important role in the future.

He was a great hero in the war which lead to the Golden Age. In fact, he was left in charge of the prison where the world's deepest evils where kept.
They lured him in with the sound of his daughter's screams (kind of parallels how Jack followed the girl's cries into his lair in the movie.) Then they attacked and corrupted him...
His daughter went on to become Mother Nature, I believe.

Why didn't the movie have any part of that in the movie. Like a scene where he looks upon a daughter running away from his nightmares into her fathers bedroom and asks if she can stay the night. He agrees to this. Pitch sees father and daughter sleeping together and then takes away the girls nightmare.
Or maybe a line like:"Maybe we should get Mother Nature to talk with Pitch"
