Description Behind every picture there is a story. Behind this is a story of harrassment and ill informed bullying.

Read my journal about what happened next. [link] A salutary lesson for street photographers.

I just feel so sorry for the next couple of generations. We are all going to end up living our own little protective bubbles, just there to protect us from imagined terrors.

Great B&W piece mate, just read your story behind it too, fucking shame that happens to people just enjoying their hobby

Thanks a lot, Jonathan, and thanks for the fave. I suppose I could have checked things out with security, but who does that everytime they walk into a different environment? I like crossing swords with people like this. They aren't intellectually equipped to deal with humans.

You`re right most people won`t and I certainly don`t check either, except for the new Mall in Cardiff recently.
Noticed a hefty presence of Security so asked and kiss my ass,no Photography allowed
But as someone noted in your Journal, temp permission can be granted if requested so I`ll try that some day

quite an unpleasant experience you had...
I'm glad you didn't let the security lads get you down.

lol No, the security primates didn't get me down. I enjoy this kind of confrontation. Speak in words of more than one syllable and they are completely lost. Thanks a lot for the fave. I quite like this one.

So many paranoid people, so little time... or something

Sorry you had a bad experience - it's definitely a great shot though, very expressive.

Thank you. I am a big softy, and the thought that someone might find me threatening is disturbing. I might take 'joker' mask next time. That will really freak her out.

Smilie on the top right doesn't look real thrilled either. The kid part I somewhat understand in todays society. I do several local events, just avoid kids and kind of a shame. So for your effort, a fave!

Thanks a lot for the faves Rob. I understand the kid part. I know I am a nice enough bloke, but others might not. Thing is, I expected with the exposure I gave this for everyone to be a blur. Anyway... No harm done.

Nigel, is that ole hag actually wearing spandex pants? Maybe that's why she called on you. They were too tight?

We should call Gok to give her a fix... but he would call her gorgeous... so not an option... maybe we should just call the fashion police on her. I think Joan Rivers is currently free.

Well, it turned out great, in any case. I actually like that the woman in the upper right is looking directly at you.

I had a relative that was a street photographer, and a really good one at that, who would fabricate cameras just in order to be sneaky. He'd make pin-hole cameras out of just about any common object and had others modified so they'd shoot perpendicular to the direction you were pointing them.

photonig In reply to BessBeland-Hudson [2010-02-06 20:54:03 +0000 UTC]

I've seen pinholes made out of bean cans and all sorts of mad things. I have been thinking of making one myself. It might help avoid situations like this.

What scares you more - the fact that the media has put these ideas in people's heads, or that fact that they live their lives by what the media says?

photonig In reply to R3D777 [2010-02-06 19:36:26 +0000 UTC]

If I'd been down there, and noticed me, I would have ignored me so I didn't spoil the shot. Perhaps that's the difference.

I would have either grinned or just carried on but I certainly wouldn't have glowered or called security! Perhaps the fact the Mrs Stoneyface was wearing an outfit at least ten years too young for her had something to do with it

There is an old building in Cleveland ( The Terminal Tower ) that has some exceptional character! I have been planning on doing an excursion to shoot some interior stuff. I might just have to do that real soon! I truly love this shot Nig, I feel voyeuristic, but is really cool to see your environment through your eyes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

photonig In reply to BillyRWebb [2010-02-06 19:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Billy. I actually thought with the longish exposure that most of the figures would have been indistinguishable, with the stall in focus. Still worked ok. I don't really like having the people as the subject, rather part of the background, as my journal explains.

You should have went down and introduced yourself to the lady in the ripped/cut jeans (at least thats what it looks like to me) and tell her where you would be posting her photos.. maybe she would be interested to see how she look at others in public. She seems to be quite rude if you ask me..
