I assumed that most people would know about the techniques of tweening.

Look it up! The internet is quite a book!

Great tutorial, but I'm having trouble on the third frame of the actionscript layer in my loader. Flash keeps telling me that there is an error on the first line involving "on (release) {"

"1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program.

Pigbuster In reply to BlancFrank [2008-01-31 23:29:05 +0000 UTC]

There might be an extra '' or '}' laying aboot.
If it's copy and pasted directly from the tutorial, then there's some kind of problem, there.

Oh how I wish there were a "Disable Smilies" button.

Either that or people would realize that making something like ' ) ' change into an emoticon isn't a very good idea.

BlancFrank In reply to Pigbuster [2008-02-01 01:20:49 +0000 UTC]

haha yeah, could it be because I'm using actionscript 3.0?

That would be it!

I actually use AS 3.0 myself nowadays, so I can't use my own tutorial properly anymore.

Haha, what changes do you have to make to the codes? Sorry if I sound stupid, I'm totally new to Flash

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to BlancFrank [2008-02-16 03:45:42 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps I will make an AS 3.0 version sometime.

By "perhaps" I mean "never".

that tought me how to hate technology becasue i did everything the instructions told me to do, and flash just totally isobeyed me and then fucking erased the progress due to the program suddenly encountering an error and shitting down! FUCK THIS

May I ask, why is it that the loading bar will NOT move?

My animation, which I used to test this loading screenie thingy. [link]

But once I have removed the _root.stop() from the AS in the first frame, the loading bar was perfect! marvelous!!

And I noticed: We do not need 2 frames for the loading bar.. only one will do, because in the actionscript in the first frame ends with the bar.gotoAndStop(percentDone); stuff. So there's no need for the second frame, yeah.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to thefreaks [2007-12-11 15:21:29 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea why _root.stop() would break it, but someone else had that problem, so it must be something.
What version of Flash do you have, BTW?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thefreaks In reply to Pigbuster [2007-12-16 12:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Macromedia Flash MX Version 6.0

happyneuroticka In reply to ??? [2007-12-09 03:40:05 +0000 UTC]

i followed all the instructions carefully and when i simulate download, it jumps straight from the first to the last frame... i tried the solutions people came up with in the comments, but still seem to have the same problem... has anyone else asked about this, or should i just tweak the code somewhere?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to happyneuroticka [2007-12-09 16:39:46 +0000 UTC]

You might possibly have the connection settings set too high, so when you simulate a download it immediately loads everything.
Putting content in the movie can fix that, as then it actually has something to load. Setting the connection settings to dial-up can also help that.

If that ISN'T the problem, then tweak away.

Um, it won't go to the play button I made in the third frame that says it's done loading. The bar just sits there after the it's filled up. How do I fix it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to LiliumLoveless [2007-12-06 15:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Mess around with the code until you get it.

Messing around is the first step to knowledge.

What do you mean by "go into the bar and make 2 more layers"? (Making the loading bar section)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pigbuster In reply to thefreaks [2007-12-06 15:33:52 +0000 UTC]

Make 2 more layers in the bar movie-clip, I assume is what I mean.

This is so thorough and really helps people who are new to flash and still in experimental stages, like me. I really understood all of this, although I didn't understand how to bring up action script, and how to use it, but once I figured it out, I was on a roll.

Your tutorial is amazing to say the least, and I look forward to anything else you may post in the future.

This thing was made before CS3, and CS3 is significantly different from what I got.

But I have CS3 now, so I'll take a look...

...it looks like it's under the "view" menu.
You have to make sure that you have the preview selected to do this, though.
