THIS TUTORIAL IS MADE FOR ACTIONSCRIPT 2. IT WILL NOT WORK FOR ACTIONSCIPT 3.YOU CAN STILL USE AS2 IN CS3, JUST MAKE SURE TO CLICK THE RIGHT BUTTON IN THE "NEW FILE" DIALOG THINGY. ALLCAP BOLD TEXT!

I find this a tad confusing, and it seems like you left out a few things taken for granted. Like how to get the button on the page, and what exactly do you add to get those circles/squares in the timeline.
I haven't been able to make a loader yet.

I assume that the people will have a general understanding of flash before attempting this tutorial.
Do a search for other tutorials. There's gotta be one that'll teach you the basics and stuff.

good on you for trying, but it wasnt explained clear enough, like how to get to the action script yadda yadda. I got too confused and abandond it half way.

That _root.stop(); line of code made my loading bar not work!
I suppose that's not intended to be there...

I can't see why _root.stop should make the loading bar stop if the entire loading screen is a movie clip like it's supposed to be.
The _root is identifying the main movie clip. The _root.stop(); line is telling the main movie to stop so it won't play past the loading screen. That shouldn't make the loading screen MC stop working.
You could just put a stop(); command on the frame of your main timeline that has the loading screen in it, since it would do the same thing.

Just double-click the bar Symbol you made, and that'll take you right in.

very nice, ive done all it says (using flash MX)
but I have 2 questions
1) when you say extend all frames to 100, does that mean EVERY frame, even the BG, Stuff ect.
2) since im on flash MX I can't find the "simulate download" thingee, so when I try it it just shows the play button with a empty bar?

hi, i was just wondering, how did you find the "simulate download"? i'm using flash mx also and i'm pretty sure that only comes on the more recent versions of flash. i'm kinda worried because i've made a lot of loading bars before but they always end up wrong in one way or another so i really want to know if my loading bar worked this time
