Description
... while I don't subscribe to the Mayan end-of-times prophecy for 2012 (December 21 is 'The Hobbit' release, the world can't end then!), I do feel horribly cynical and a little depressed at the way some things are looking up ahead for the world (you know - financial meltdown, Big Money getting away with everything, the rise of the far-right parties here in Europe, the head-banging obscurantism and reactionary sexist, poverty-bashing attitudes coming from the Republican candidates, SOPA and its ilk....) .... despite being guardedly optimistic about my personal situation ... and, more whimsically, I can't help but wonder if the sheer amount of expectations that something is due to happen in 2012 won't somehow, in some Discworldian-power-of-human-belief rules-of-narrative-causality twist, cause something to actually happen...Anyhoo. In the light of all that, best wishes to all.

for them to predict a collsion is impossible the maya didn't have a good telescope to look that far and predict something to collide to hit in 2012
Nostradmus (as far as I know) based his so called 'predications' from text from the bible and plagrism wasn't really a big thing in Nostradmus's day. Whether that is true or not, I've yet to hear any of his so called predictations to come true. so 1: The Maya never predicated a collsion 2: Neither did Nostradmus
If you're still worried, read up on Nasa, Bad astrononmy blog or even watch this video clip [link]
Hope this eases your mind a bit (and I hope I don't sound like a snob lol)

idk i get you on the mayans part but ive heard alot that nordtradamus was know for his accurate predictions and for nasa ive always had this theory of what if they know something will happen but they dont reveal it to the public cause of how the world will react so they keep it hidden and thanks you and trust me you don't and even if you were im no kind to judge

also about the feeling, its like something out of final fantasy, the world has been a crappy way of living but on those final days your on the horizen with the sun setting standing strongly gazing into the distance and you feel something big is coming that will erupt from the ground and soar through the sky in which we must prepare for the adventure,to grab a weapon and our packs, and be ready for whatever comes out of that tower.-insert cinematic final fantasy like scene here-.But what ever happens, together we'll be ready.

You would think that in such an event the world will go from what it is in its current situation that it will change go into a more wiser, noble, brighter way of living promoting beauty in the world making it more flourishing and evolving spiritually both within us and of the world than killing it off more and a balance in a justice system that actually works in which we can all agree upon instead of adding more to the madness and creating more confusion, then again as far as human society goes it usually takes an event such this one that threatens the very fate of the world and everything within for society to actually learn something.Even though nothing was ever learned from the battles, millions of lost lives from the acts of war and senseless violence and such. Hopefully if nothing happens on 2012 someone of a high power will say,hey the world almost ended and we havn't learn a thing even after that.We should create a type of unification system thats powerfully effective and try to make this world and make sure it works this time or else next time we won't be so lucky.
But knowing society i don't think so,most likely resume the acts of violence and war not learning a thing most likely end up proving it was stupidity that ended the human race my dear watson stupidity. They were so smart and had the ability to prevent self destruction but chose to deny become careless and live in their own little world not thinking of what may actually happen even if nothing would of happen i doubt they would of came to realization and concentrate on a more brighter path.
love the picture by the way,but you are right even if nothing happen it will feel something magical in the air.-Final fantasy reference insert here-
For myself i'll continue living life as fully and freely as possible, who knows maybe things will change in such a way the world becomes more beautiful and the way we live will be no more but more open minded and adventureous than before.
Im at least hoping a giant spiral tower of doom with a powerful interdemensional boss with holy relics and such to rise up so we can all grab a sword and explore and try to defeat him with new adventures unfolding.Yeah i like to see things on a more brighter side and more adventureous like out from a videogames or anime, but as i said who knows what awaits,we can only see until we get there.
also my favorite food is pizza,if here is no pizza then this would trully be a world of madness,i love those ones that are not only very huge but love those carnivore meaty specials heaven or hell,if there is no pizza,it is a world of madness indeed.lol.

i try mostly to speak out of honesty and the information gathered and not being turned into one of those people with the sign saying the end is near, shouting it into the air crazily or the guys talking about repenting pointing the random finger of doom or one of those who gather everyone else lost in confusion and don't know what to do brainwashing them through prophecy and hysteria forcing them to kill each other or follow orders like kill the girl, burn her, kill the baby, they're sinners and all that.To be honest thats pretty gone mental and lost their minds long ago.Even if true, its not right to take advantage and use their as pawns for a synacial nature. Its pretty funny but all jokes aside its just sickly messed up.I like to look foward to a more foward and tactical approach that guarentees the most safety and balance then the old bum rush rush lets rip each other apart sceneraio.Anyways, i'd love to visit the mayan ruins sometime to look at the calander tablet myself.Im pretty wise and very knowledgeable for my age.
To see if a piece is broken off that ends in 2012 but actually another piece that goes to it or if it actually says 2012 and other things like the world will start over like that of the time on a clock or will something disasterous happen.I love visiting ancient ruins, its something only seen in movies and videogames that exists in reality,im always intrested in that type of stuff,so much unknown history and things left to be discovered. But anyways,i like to look at things at a more positive approach even if its a negative.
But the only thing we can do is wait but knowing me ill continue living my life as full and free as possible, since thats what life is about, the challanges are there to make us more knowledgable and stronger than the who we were before, both mentally, physically and spiritually, when your set your mind to it there's nothing that can't be achieved or lived, your only restricted by what you restrict yourself to in life, other than that there are no limitations.
Still would be pretty cool to see a large tower rise from the depths and the only way to save the world is to defeat the boss in the tower,im all for it and will be more than obiliged to grab a weapon and head for the tower, its not just adventure its life.

There's a protest against ACTA at 2pm Place Notre Dame, are you going? I think I might. I don't know what it'll accomplish, but I know that I want to do something.
I read that this year there ARE supposed to be a lot of big solar flares, and that what it meant was that we'd get to see the aurora borealis as far south as Mexico... IF we're in the right place at the right time! I'd love that, although the article did say it could mess up radio communications and stuff for a while. I think that the 21st of December this year will be a bit like New Year's Eve 2000 all over again, only this time we're old enough to really enjoy it.

the mayan don't prophecy the end of the world, only the end of humanity. They just said that this day will be the time for reflection and change of thought. If we don't change, will be our final.
And I hope to see the hobbit, I can't wait!

One thing I learned from a professor was that even if the Mayans are right, we've still got another 3 years. The calendar was recalculated and it actually ends in 2015, not 2012.

The Mayans weren't predicting that the world would end in any case - they calculated their calendar out to this year because after this we're supposed to enter a new age and the calendar starts over. They were figuring that everything would be different, not that everything would end.

Oh, my gosh, I just had a thought: What if all the negative-world-end-y thoughts about Y2K (wow, that was a long time ago) that never came true were instead diffused into the world since then, and all of this mess was just left over from that Narrative Causality that didn't get used?
