ya, im working on trying to get them gone... ive been reading up on all kinds of noise reduction and artifact fixup techniques. this was my first time shooting night, and first time on lightning.

i understand how it looks that way, but its actually VERY level, there is a massive escarpment on that side of the valley and it drops off right there. ill consider leveling it purely for aesthetics though

no way dude, cause yours are SOO clean and clear. i did the best i could for a night shot, which i have very little with. but your have everything. the moment, the technique. i dont think mine are bad by any means. yours are just like turning the amp up to 11 is all.

That's pretty amazing, lightning shots like that are hard to get. Did you take this from your house or just a random place? Very dark, but good.

i live down in the valley you see there. so i was up on the escartment... i tried playing around with brightening it up, but i lost cloud detail and i wasnt happy with the amount of noise generated, this was were i left it after coming from the .raws

Brightening with dark pictures like this will really do that to it. I try a lot to bring out the contrast in my black and white photos that turn out greener and it just makes it look like a poor shot.
