Ha...thanks man. Not too many 2D guys dig this stuff. Saw the old pic on Facebook...holy crapola that was a while back. By the way..when is the next Sketchbook Session?? Been out of town for all of them so far, but no trips scheduled in the near future...would be great to hang out again.

Hey I've got a question about the hair. I recently started a head model and was planning on modeling the hair out. Did you extrude and shape the hair out from the head of the model or did you make it seperate and combine it? Nice work though, I really like it.

Cool man. I'll have to keep that in mind once I get to that point. Thanks for the help!

Well...I found a tutorial on hair that uses Nurbs Curves. You basically draw a line in the direction you want the hair to go and at all the major shape change points. Then loft. Duplicate the surface curves and apply the hair dynamic to the curves. That way you can control how much you want the hair to follow the curves when they are animating. The hair shape in this model is just my shadow casting shape. It is hidden in the final render, but it is made up of the lofted nurbs shapes I used to have the dynamic hair follow.

Thanks man!! Just finalized my design to model the Panda Killer. And the Nomad kid with the skull hat is close to being finished.

I think overall you did a great job. you probably want to get to the rigging, but maybe taking a second look at the knee, looks a bit flat. Nice though.

Eh. I really don't want it to be any more defined. Not many people look at knees in the animation bits. If there is a full body shot, the detail will be lost. If their is a close up shot, the knees are normally out of frame. But thanks for the heads up. I definitely thought about it.

i was just looking at the older version, and i think that one of the things that made her look bad, was the green top, and it's good you got rid of it.

did you base her on a real life model
her pelvis is wider then in the 2D version, her legs are shorter, and her boobs are smaller ... and over all her body proportions are a bit more realistic, and not those of a super model...

PiratoLoco In reply to gadyariv [2010-05-05 11:01:09 +0000 UTC]

Tried to average her out. I have controls on the rig to change the proportions as I want them for a particular animation.

Also planning ahead for the other two bomb squad girls. The Dasha character will be more slender and then the little asian girl will be shorter and smaller hips than the Julie character. I had her boobs bigger. Then thought...she is in the jungle and very physical...probably gonna result in smaller boobs. I can mover her around more catlike this way. Too many thoughts to put down here that went thru my head with this.

Thanks! Done in Maya with polygons. Hair shape is a nurbs shape used to cast shadows for the real hair.
