Hey buddy, I'm glad to see a new tutorial from you! I have a question. How do you add color to your tones? I've done a lot of research and I know it is possible to manipulate layer properties in order to add color, but it ends up being cumbersome and the results are always contrived.

Normally I just match the tone and straight up paint over. But for this...I did a color layer in photoshop and just got something quick...then flattened that to the tone. From there if you paint straight forward and vary the color on the flattened layer you can get a more natural result. Straight up painting is always the best way. Hope this helps!!!

Can't form a shape without a line. The point is not that one is above the other though. It's just a list of principles...use em how you want right!! Make one more important than the other. We are artists, so we get to determine which comes first on our own terms.
But...line is always going to be in every piece unless you put a dot in the middle of a page I guess. Create a shape...the border by default has a line. It can be soft or hard edged but there will be a line. I can't think of any case where that wouldn't happen. It's the same thing when color can't exist without tone. Catch 22 on that one because every tone is a color. Can go in circles with all of this...HAHA!!!
