What time is it!? TUTORIAL TIME!!
Although I'm quite sure Photoshop tutorials on this topic have been done before, I wanted to create one that's as comprehensive as possible and covers as much useful stuff as I can add without it becoming too crowded. With that said, I hope you enjoy the blood, sweat, tears, etc etc I put into it! Oh, and you prooooobably have to download to see it half-decently, sorry about that.
If you see any mistakes, grammar errors and whatnot, please report them to me in the comments. I'm only human after all, and bound to make mistakes. Also, sorry for the pretty poor quality of the images included. The limited screen resolution took it's toll on them when taking the screenshots.

UPDATE 2:Fixed a typo and changed the tutorial structure so that it fits on dA
UPDATE: Added a section regarding Gradient Fill layers and removed the mention that Layer Styles aren't scalable. Thanks for the tips ~MrHavre !

just one question, how do you link your layer to the path I'm going to place it in?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what the issue is. What are you trying to do exactly?

Haha, wow. I was doing it very very wrong. Glad I put in the effort to learn Illustrator.

That's definitely the better choice for vectoring, Photoshop is pretty awful at it.

I usually use Flash (and occasionally Illustrator) for the vectoring and Photoshop for minor changes, but I had never considered using it's own path tools.
Useful, thank you.

It's not nearly as powerful as Illustrator when it comes to vectoring, but it can do its job decently.

Whoa, whoa, chillax! What do you mean it won't allow you to see nor find it? Tried clicking the big download button on the right side of the page? It has a .RAR with the tutorial in it.

*sigh*...sorry it-its just that I have Adobe photoshop 8.0 and I've been trying to find out if I have vectors or not and trying to find out how to get it from slow-site to slow-site. It's for a drawing I'm doing for a friends birthday and I don't want it to be late with school coming up. I-i-I just don't want to dissapoint anybody.

That's perfectly understandable. If you do want to vector, my best suggestion would be to get Inkscape. It's completely free and not that hard to use. You can find some tutorials for it in MLP-Vectorclub's Inkscape tutorial gallery.

...wat?...If you're asking what program those tutorials are for, I said in my last comment that it's Inkscape. It's your best bet if you need to learn to vector fast.

May i come forth with a suggestion or two ?
there is a different way to apply a gradient, then then the gradient overlay options. Which is called "gradient fill"
And you can scale "styles". You just need to enable the "scale styles" option in the "image size" dialog box
I made a visual representation of where you can find the "gradient fill" and were the "scale styles" option is located: [link]

Thanks a lot for the tips! I have no idea how I managed to overlook Gradient fills. I'll update the tutorial, adding this information to the Gradients section. ^^

It's a great start, but the file takes a long time to load due to the size.

I sort of have that problem as well. I might just add a preview and have it download-only because the downloadable one seems to be loading pretty fast.
