Description
Here's something I've been planning for the past few days your birthday showed up in my notifications and now it's gone, but I don't careAnyway, here are 's wonderful characters Sari and Peikko from his equally wonderful comicΒ Storm Rider . Now lemme tell you something about this comic, because not only is it drawn beautifully and entirely traditionally with watercolours (I like watercolours), but it's got a wonderful gripping story and there is obviously a lot of heart and effort going into every update, so do yourself a favour and read it right now. Finnish people are lucky, since it's the comic's main language and there's well over 300 pages to read as of now, but the English translation is ongoing and, despite being currently on hiatus, there are already 200 pages to enjoy. And believe me, you will enjoy it.
This is a little present I decided to make for my buddy because he's awesome and always super nice and has drawn things for others many a times (for myself included), and his original work deserves a lot more attention because it's brilliant. So if you like quality watercolour art, good comics about adventures and giant bats, do yourself a favour and check him out. And you, Dora, keep going the way you are, this place wouldn't be the same without you

thank you! i'm still trying to figure out how to best draw grass, the white was more of an experiment but i like the result, i'm gonna play around with it a bit longer~

Nooooo why you do dis ;_; (my literal reaction seeing this in my notifications was just chanting "no no no")
I actually hid my birthday so I wouldn't get random people wishing me "happy birthday", I have not celebrated my bday for like ten years so I don't care and I don't wanna make a fuss over it
But real talk, I love it. And you really didn't have to do this, seriously. And I feel like this is a revenge from that pic I made for your bday, that description reminds me strongly about what I wrote about you back then :'P
I absolutely love the coloring here, sky is so nice blue and grass is such a relaxing shade of green. Sari and specially Peikko are adorbs in your style like holy heck, those furry ears and big eyes on him are just adorable. The white outline on the characters is cool and it really makes them stand out from the background. Overall, super nice job.
This is just so cute and nice and so in character and I can't stand it. Just...Thank you. For making this and being awesome person that you are.
"and I need someone to ramble about botw" any time, my friend (in fact I literally just played some BotW and came back to see this)

i figured it was something about not wanting to be bothered with birthday wishes, but i had this drawing in mind even before the birthday came up
i didn't have to, but i wanted to so shut up and take it. and they do sound similar, now that i think of it, but it's all true :'D
but anyway, i'm glad you like it, and it was a pleasure doing this! i thought for a sec that peikko looked a tad too fuzzy at the end, i just had too much fun adding all the fur, i can see why you'd like drawing them so much
i still play botw a fair deal too, i just enjoy wandering around and fighting enemies for fun i even keep discovering new things, like how you can use food to bait bokoblins out of their camps and kill them one at a timeΒ

My favorite pasttime in BotW is to explore and find Koroks I have not found yet (I've collected only +200 "seeds" so far) and the Korok mask that came from the DLC is really handy for that.
I also kill the enemies I come across, my favorite way is either to snipe them one by one with arrows or just straight up annihilate them with bomb arrows or Master Sword (which I have upgraded, thanks to the DLC). Last night I "accidentally" ran with my horse in one of those big skulls filled with Bokoklins and Lizalfos, there were bomb barrels which exploded and my horse freaked out while I took care of all the enemies. Thankfully the horse didn't die because he was my favorite, Socks (iirc I've mentioned him to you before)

you've only found 200? i found over 400 without even really looking, they put so many in the game they're literally everywhere (but then again i haven't been using the warping system in a while because i love just walking around to wherever i need to go to take in the scenery, so i found a lot more like that). i haven't got the dlc yet because i wanna wait to see what champion's ballad is like, the first pack isn't really interesting enough for me to get it (tho trial of the sword looks fun, i've watched a playthrough of it. ok, that and tingle outfit, it's glorious B) )
i don't even use weapons anymore (apart from the master sword), i kill them all with arrows and regular bombs. or while shield surfing. i love shield surfing
i've seen 2 horses die in the game (both belonged to bokoblins and were shot by them with arrows), it's the most heartbreaking thing. and yes, you did mention Socks it's the brown one you used in your botw piece i think (i have a brown one too because i'm that cliche. his name is Daphnes). and speaking of horses, i also got other new ones because the first two (which i mentioned a while ago i think) sucked. my personal favourite is the royal white horse, which i named Prince (worst name ever) and still use the royal set on. he's cute

I said over 200, not sure about the current number since I've given some "seeds" to Hestu in Korok Forest. And you've probably played this game more than I have (last time I checked I had played +155 hours), I play a lot different games at the same time you see.
The Trial of the Sword was annoying as heck to complete, but in the end really worth it: Master Sword is super strong all the time and it glows. The only downside is that I used it's glow to detect any guardians close to me and now it can't do that. Then again, guardians are hardly a threat to me anymore so it doesn't matter.
Shield surfing is sooo fun, I just often kinda forget it exists and forget to do it.
...I think I've killed more horses than two, unfortunately.

oh, if you have over 200 now then you might have found more than i have anyway. i have over 400 in total, including the ones you give hestu (i have about 40 in my inventory now but i can't do anything with them because i've maxed out the stash upgrades). but yeah, i mostly play botw on my switch because the only other game i have for it mario kart (i got other games in mind, but they're for later).
i didn't play it myself, but it looked like fun because it takes you back at the beginning when you sucked and didn't have any weapons and protection (kinda like eventide island), and you have to gather everything again. they were really long tho, i'll admit. also another easy way to see if there's any guardians is to use the upgraded stasis rune that detects enemies (the living ones glow yellow, but i assume you know that). another (fairly dumb) way i've tried is to target them using the targeting system of the photo album, it tells you when they're nearby and how close they are. there's not just one way of doing things, which i still admire very much about this game
why do you kill horsies >:vv

YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-08 14:04:04 +0000 UTC]
No, I have collected only over 200 overall - including the ones I've given to Hestu.
I actually realized just a day or two ago that you can use the camera option for targeting living guardians. I was looking at a decayed guardian from a distance, wondering if it was alive or not and used camera on it, and it basically told me it was a living thing (I thought myself "whoa, that's pretty neat"). But you're right, there are so many ways to do things in this game and that's really admirable. Every time I watch someone else playing BotW I almost always go "wow, you can do that too?". There's so much attention to detail that it's just insane and I love it (definitely one of the best things in Breath of the Wild hands down)
They are not my horses and I'm so used to horses dying after playing Skyrim for like 400 hours - in that game you can have dogs as pets but they can die too so be thankful having a pet dog isn't an option in BotW because your heart would broke (trust me, after letting all available pet dogs die in Skyrim I never want another pet dog in a video game ;-; )
you should seriously play more games, there are some good on (or at least coming to) Switch

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to YamaDoragon [2017-09-08 15:45:02 +0000 UTC]
i still keep discovering new things as well, it's insane. for instance, did you know that going on hebra mountain on a clear night, you can see northern lights? i just discovered it one day randomly and it blew my mind i wanted to draw that actually, but i've no idea how to do northern lights with watercolours. i thought of using white acrylics, but i'm not very confident in the idea
skyrim's also on my wishlist, but not immediately. i'm interested in seeing more open world games, botw really inspired me in that sense. how do your pet dogs die? do the travel with you? i've seen a few games that do that

YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-08 16:24:51 +0000 UTC]
You mean auroras? I saw them pretty early in my game, and my first reaction to that was "this is just like Skyrim" because in Skyrim you can see auroras all the time at night and it's beautiful.
And I feel you - auroras are something I'd love to do more in my stuff but really haven't figured out how to. Acrylics seem to be the best option.
If you want an open world game, Skyrim is great in that regard. It's only slightly smaller than BotW and you can have dogs as pets - they can travel with you or if you have purchased a home, you can leave them there (in my second Skyrim playthrough I left a pet dog to my home after painfully learning from my first playthrough how easily they can die).
Also there's tons of quests with interesting storylines and they're all voiceacted. All of them. One reason why BotW felt kinda dull to me was because in my opinion the side quests in it are so boring compared to what they are in Skyrim. One quest where you help ghost of a researcher to finish her lifetime dream really struck me strongly, and that's not the only one, not even close. The game is full of interesting characters and stories, and The Elder Scrolls lore is really deep if you get into that (but it is not required to enjoy the games)

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to YamaDoragon [2017-09-10 11:47:51 +0000 UTC]
i'll agree with that, the sidequests in botw weren't the greatest. aside from a few memorable ones like tarrey town they were all pretty basic, and many were just boring. it was always just giving a certain item to a person, and many times i had that item already on me, so i didn't even have to go look for it. that's just meh. i enjoyed the shrine quests more because some of them had an actual story behind them (like the stolen heirloom one in kakariko, that's my favourite). it was pretty disappointing on that part, since sidequests are a big part of making a world feel alive. if skyrim delivers better on that part, then that's good (tbh i don't know much about skyrim or elder scrolls lore, aside from the fact that it's vaguely scandinavian and that there's dragons)

YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-10 21:19:13 +0000 UTC]
The basics of The Elder Scrolls games that you're on this big continent called Tamriel, Skyrim is just one part of it and it's cold and really Norwegian so your idea of it being Scandinavian wasn't too off - but as a Scandinavian myself I can tell you that there's big differences between Scandinavian countries and their cultures. Older Elder Scrolls games takes place in other parts of Tamriel, for example Skyrim's predecessor Oblivion (The Elder Scrolls IV) takes place in the province of Cyrodiil, which is south from Skyrim.
One thing that may not be for you is that Skyrim doesn't have as much variety as BotW when it comes to nature. Most of Skyrim are pine forests, mountains and snowy areas. In southern parts of Skyrim there are pretty autumn colored forest (quite like Akkala province in BotW) and northern Skyrim has some pretty impressive glaciers.
Oh, and in Skyrim there's character customization. You can choose your character between many races that inhabit Tamriel. There are bunch of different human races, elf races, orcs, lizard men (argonians) and cat men (khajit). Each race have their own skills and specialities, but in Skyrim you can pretty much be whatever you want - in older Elder Scrolls games a thief/sneaking heavy armor orc wasn't really a possibility, but I tried that in Skyrim and it worked just fine.
Also, you can marry npcs in Skyrim. And gay marriage is a thing. I've played Skyrim twice, both times as female character and both times I married another female. And you can travel with your spouse and kill things together and it's just glorious.
...sorry, I'm rambling at this point. The point is, Skyrim is great and I love it I think you would love it too.

i don't mind the rambling, it sounds like a genuinely cool game actually. i don't mind the lack of variety in nature, i'm a big fan of pine forests actually (i wish there were more pines in botw aside from the north-west) i added it on my wishlist, and since i saw that it comes out this winter, i might get it as my own christmas present haha

YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-14 16:12:00 +0000 UTC]
Ha hah, a Christmas present in form of a game sounds amazing :'D But I'm just glad you're at least considering getting it, it is a really damn good game.
Also I'm not trying to talk BotW down, I genuinely like both BotW and Skyrim but for me Skyrim brings so much more entertainment for longer time with all story and side quest stuff
Also, the lack of variety in nature is actually arguable. There are pine forests, autumn color birch forests, mountains, tundras and glaciers, but if the Switch version has the official add-on/DLC then there's more because that adds some of my favorite places features in whole game - the DLC adds a whole giant island/mini continent that has different climate to Skyrim...though, about half of that place is ice and mountains like Skyrim.

PitchBlackEspresso In reply to YamaDoragon [2017-09-20 21:23:35 +0000 UTC]
i haven't gotten any christmas presents in ages (when i get anything, it's mostly just money which i'm perfectly fine with me), so i might as well spice it up a bit doesn't come across as talking down, don't worry, it's actually nice to hear that botw can hold its own compared to skyrim, since skyrim is such a hugely popular open world game
ooh it would be very nice if it came with all the add-ons. mario kart 8 deluxe (which is just a switch port of the wii U mario kart 8) included all of the dlcs from the wii U version, so maybe they might do the same thing with skyrim. the idea of an additional mini continent sounds awesomeΒ

YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-21 13:56:36 +0000 UTC]
No Christmas presents for ages, huh? ...that gives me ideas. :'P
Oh, the dlc in Skyrim is awesome. Aside from the mini continent, there is two bigger story quests, multiple other additional quests, many new skills and interesting characters. And you can have an armored husky as a pet.
π: 0 β©: 1
PitchBlackEspresso In reply to YamaDoragon [2017-09-24 15:33:59 +0000 UTC]
oh you
...is it sad that i would consider the armored husky pet the best add-on?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
YamaDoragon In reply to PitchBlackEspresso [2017-09-25 07:58:06 +0000 UTC]
No, because armored husky pet IS the best part of the Skyrim dlc :'D tho there's only two of them in whole game and guess who managed to kill them both on their first Skyrim playthrough
but I was really sad over their deaths
