Description
One of the more theoretical things I've written but in a way, it helps make sense of a lot of things artists do. Some of this I picked up glancing around with texts about drawing manga, but luckily it turns out that my time wasn't entirely wasted. Also check out what I've written for

I have to disagree with on the part that if the ponies look like real horse, they won't be cute. I mean look at this drawing right here.

Random fact for the curious: real foals are pretty much the opposite of mlp foals in terms of proportion. Real foals are pretty much all legs; if we were to put a silhouette of a real foal in that height comparison chart, it would probably be closer to Fleur-de-lis or Celestia than Pumpkin Cake (not sure of the exact proportions, but you get the idea).
But, like the tutorial says, this doesn't exactly say 'baby' to humans who may know nothing about horses. So we gotta pretend they work like humans (much like many other aspects of mlp ponies that were pointed out in this tutorial series).
This is an excellent tutorial series so far that points out lots of abstraction concepts used in MLP ponies and how they are used to maximum effect. I also like that you point out some common mistakes and how to fix them.

Unfortunately, I'm not looking forward to G5 ( if it happens ). I mean, it's nice for a change, but from G1 - G4 the style has gotten less and less equine-based. I do understand that the younger audience the show ( intentionally ) attracted would most likely find pink horses throwing parties a bit creepy. Okay, stopping the squabble. This tutorial is very helpful and if there was ever a MLP:FiM class you'd definitely be my first choice teacher.

I don't know.. maybe they'll take some notes from some of the more realistic fan art on here like that by earthsong9405.deviantart.com/ . Some of the more realistic art can translate just as easily to a cartoon and will also be popular among fans.

I love your tutorials. Very insightful, and I love that you give the reasoning behind things and leave us to use that information however we will.

However they will look, I hope they will have a ton of variety. I think part of what makes G4's art style shine from past generations is the sort of variety they had. A lot of ponies from past generations (as far as I've seen them anyways) looked very similar, except maybe having younger fillies which are practically just shrunken regular characters.

Makes sense, mostly. My foal OC's got a slightly different build compared to the norm, though, but the head and body are still in foal proportions. At least they should be. I made him bulkier than usual, which makes his head smaller in proportion. One thing I didn't see, btw, was the effect hair has on the general appearance. I messed around with different hairstyles and it turns out that having a big head of hair can go a long way to making the head look smaller or bigger.
But anyhow, this noob found the explanation useful. Thank you, and I hope many artists can benefit from it.
