Description
NOTE- Moved to Scraps. At this point, I think everyone has seen these photos of the Walmart posters and/or they've been recreated and reposted to the moon and beyond. These posters are NOT my work, I claim no ownership, copywrite, or responsibility. They're just amature photos of awesome, amazing, absolutely incredible posters. my goal was just to give everyone a chance to see and enjoy them.
The other three beautiful posters were designed by AllSpark Forums user Nayuki-[link] This map, however, was designed by some other extremely talented and wholly awesome artist! If I find out who it is, I will post the info here.
For an even BIGGER HD version of the map here's a link to the file in my Dropbox. Be warned, it's a nearly 10MB file, so YONDER TO BANDWIDTH- [link]

DISTANCE NOT TO SCALE
... that isn't very helpful then... and I agree - Manehatten is much too far east.

I see the problem with not all of the towns being there but seriously, the scale?? What are you planning to visit?

Isn't distance important for fan authors? It's not very useful if the distances are entirely meaningless, except maybe to orient the towns (which doesn't help a whole lot).

I see your point, but I hope you know Equestria is not real...you cannot make a "scaled map" of a place that doesn't exist (is an oxymoron)
π: 0 β©: 1
RadiantVoid In reply to ronco90 [2012-08-05 21:09:38 +0000 UTC]
An oxymoron is something like 'ordered chaos' 'definite maybe', and other such phrases that involve two things that contradict one another.
You can have a scale map of a fictional place, it just doesn't mean as much as it doesn't really have to be adhered to. Example:
I imagine a kingdom of Pytiaj, it is a square with sides 4 miles long (tis a small kingdom). There are trees that line one side, mountains line the opposite side, and the two remaining sides are prarie. There is a manor smack in the middle of the square. You actually could draw a scale map of such an imaginary place.

ronco90 In reply to RadiantVoid [2012-08-06 01:49:10 +0000 UTC]
I beg to differ, The scale of a map is the ratio of a distance on the map to the corresponding distance on the ground. If there is not a set distance (and in this case there isn't), then a scale can't be used. And unless Hasbro (it has to be official, if not, anyone else can claim their map is to scale as well) comes up with a consistent set of distances for their cities a scaled map will not be possible.
So yeah, by definition, a scaled map cannot be made of a fictional place.

There is a country called Boxtopia. In it there is a little town and a large capital. It is (bear in mind the limits of what I can do with text) 3 times as long as it is wide. There is a large, empty field in the bottommost area, the capital in the middle, and the small town in the top. This is a map of Boxtopia, to scale:
_
*
O
_
The circle is the scaled size of the capital, the star is the size of the small town in Boxtopia. You can see that Boxtopia is roughly 3 times longer than it is wide, and that the capital has a larger radius than the town (again, bear in mind the limits of what I can actually do with text to make a map).
Here is another map of Boxtopia, not to scale:
_
O
O
_
As you can see here, the capital is portrayed as the same size as the small town - this is clearly not as accurate as the previous map, even though the overall shape of the boundaries didn't change. I could also post another, more absurd example:
_
O
*

_
You can see here that it is grossly out of whack, clearly not to scale as described even though it is a fictional place! Are you arguing that if I re-sized Canterlot to take up 25% of this entire map, it would be equally to scale, despite that clearly not representing what we have seen? The definition is interesting... but it simply doesn't pass the common sense test.

The greybeards lived there long ago. But then Pinkie annoyed them so much they said:

unfortuanly, Pinkie can break the fourth wall and travel to different dimensions, so they deal with her to this day.

It's nice and all that there is a map but it's become obvious that the show was not written with a map in mind and that there was only a vague general idea of the geography.
From what has been shown in the show itself, there is several errors present in the map. (The valley Ponyville is shown to exist in, Manehatten is far to far and eastward, badlands again are to far and southward. etc...)
What annoys me the most though is that they were more determined to make it more or less match a map of the United States then just be original and leave the name-pun towns as name pun towns.

this map is full of lies. Aj ran from manehattan to ponyville in under a day, the sonic rainboom would cover the entire country(we know it doesn't) As for Trottingham, at least they got that right. This is not accurate to the show in the least otherwise since both canterlot and apploosa are a day and night journy but canterloy is half the distance from ponyville.

So..... Trottingham is outside of Equestria?? And that's why Pipsqueak neve celebrated a Nightmare Night before? Because Nightmare Moon attack was in Equestria only, and in Pip's kingdom that wasn't a big deal at all?
That makes some sense.
About the rest of the map.... I have all my hype on the existence of a Kingdom for Griffons, and in the Frozen North.... too much potential.
