Description
NOTE- Moved to Scraps. At this point, I think everyone has seen these photos of the Walmart posters and/or they've been recreated and reposted to the moon and beyond. These posters are NOT my work, I claim no ownership, copywrite, or responsibility. They're just amature photos of awesome, amazing, absolutely incredible posters. my goal was just to give everyone a chance to see and enjoy them.
The other three beautiful posters were designed by AllSpark Forums user Nayuki-[link] This map, however, was designed by some other extremely talented and wholly awesome artist! If I find out who it is, I will post the info here.
For an even BIGGER HD version of the map here's a link to the file in my Dropbox. Be warned, it's a nearly 10MB file, so YONDER TO BANDWIDTH- [link]

Trottingham is based off of an English city. And -ington is old english for town. Assuming this is like our earth, these should be east of the ocean. Since It looks like the map is only depicting North America

Aw, this cannon map is kinda disapointing:
So Gastly cannon is a trainstation away? Wow, RD really took time with her Pet competition...
So AJ walked all the way from Ponyville to Manehatten when she was just a filly??
All the places named during "It's about time" from RD's scouts were irrelevant?
Conclussion: Disapointed...

It says at the bottom left corner "distance not to scale" so that can imply that the map is not entirly accurate and that some of the locations where left out.

"some of the locations where left out"
Then why brag about this map as being cannon? My conclussion as being disapointed stands...

Equestrians don't have satilites (that we know of) so the best they can do is send pegesi or ponies in balloons to chart what they see or send out surveyors who can still only be so accurate. So its not to much of a stretch of the imagination the ponies (or pony) who made this map did it based on memory and what what little data that can be provided.

Since they have trains, it means they probably have reach the same technology-era as humans "Renessance era". This means, that accurate maps should be absolute no problem at all to do (you didn't think only satilites could do accurate maps, did you?) with the technology and tools they should posses. I'm no expert on the subject, but I know for fact that the human colonization over the new world (which happened before the train was discovered) could not be possible without accurate maps, maps not based on memory.

Its quite obvious that no matter what, were both just going to combat each others view of the subject, so id just like to end it here. Let's agree to disagree and move on to different horizons.

I'm probably the only guy in the fandom with a problem with this map. And no, it's not 'cause it 'ruins my fanfic' or something like that, but because it leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination anymore. There's no mysterious caves or forests like the everfree or jungles or volcanoes or anything... And it's so freaking small. Frankly, it's kinda boring.
I dunno, I guess I just expected more from the people who made this show, and now that it's actually out I'm just really underwhelmed... >_>

Lurks-no-More In reply to Midnight-Cobra [2012-08-04 17:58:10 +0000 UTC]
Well, for one thing, this is just Equestria the country; the rest of the world is still a mystery. It's got arrows pointing to where griffons and dragons live (most of them, at least), and Zecora's home is somewhere off the map as well.
For another thing, this clearly isn't intended to be an exhaustive map of Equestria; neither Trottingham nor Hoofington is on the map, for example, and there's that "Distances Not To Scale" notice. Plenty of room for strange and scarcely populated places between those displayed on the map!

Midnight-Cobra In reply to Lurks-no-More [2012-08-04 18:11:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, potentially I suppose... except that that raises more questions and makes the canon make no sense. For example, if the distance is 'not to scale' then how did Applejack manage to basically run all the way from Manehattan to Ponyville? How did the Mane 6 manage to walk to 'Smokey Mountain' (assuming that's the Dragon mountain from Dragonshy) in less than a day? And if Smokey Mountain is closer to another city than Ponyville, why send the Mane 6 at all rather than some agents from over there? It raises a lot of questions... And frankly the only way I can begin to justify any of them is that this isn't all of Equestria but rather a single province.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lurks-no-More In reply to Midnight-Cobra [2012-08-05 12:20:23 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure "Smokey Mountain" is not the mountain from Dragonshy but a different place entirely. The smokiness of that mountain was a very recent development, and caused only by the dragon setting up a lair there.
Second, why would you assume AJ ran all the way from Manehattan to Ponyville? For all that we know, she took a week on the trip. We know that the Rainboom triggered the cutie marks on all the Mane Six, but they did not all get those marks at the same time. Only Dash, Twilight and 'Shy get their marks at the moment of the rainboom or close to it; Pinkie gets hers the next morning when she throws the party to her folks, Rarity after the school play, and AJ when she finally returns to Sweet Apple Acres.

Midnight-Cobra In reply to Lurks-no-More [2012-08-06 06:27:25 +0000 UTC]
I assumed that, mostly because she said the rainbow "Led" her home. Ponyville was visible through Uncle Orange's window, and the rainbow was visible leading to it. I simply assumed that it was close enough to run to the city in a day or so. And honestly, if Ponyville is visible from Uncle Orange's window... it probably would be.

Lurks-no-More In reply to Midnight-Cobra [2012-08-06 11:34:49 +0000 UTC]
If Manehattan was close enough that you could see Ponyville from there, you could see Manehattan from Ponyville. Which, obviously, you can't; the only other town we've ever seen from Ponyville is Canterlot, built high up on the mountainside as it is.
