Description
I haven't changed the model but I experimented with FinalRender and the results are shown below. The funny thing is that I turned out GI because I was quite unhappy about the shaddows FinalRender created. I kept the HDRI background and the skylight on and the result surprised me...especially the very short rendering time.
Specs about the model...
Technique: SubD (Iteration 2)
Polycount: 1.2 million
Renderer: FinalRender Stage 1 Sp2
Rendertime: less than 40 minutes
What do you think?

I think it vaguely resembles the amour the tau warriors from the warhammer 40k universe wear. But I think the detail on the model is amazing, it is as its a real miniature on your desk^^

12 MILL POLYS!! No wonder the surfaces are so smooth. That would've took my comp years to render!!! Awsome work man!

In my opinion, the robot is perfect! I would have liked more reflections on its surface, though. Anyway, I wanted to give you some advice. You're used to BB forums, aren't you? Well, just to say that DeviantART doesn't recognize attributes like or [i] unless you replace the [] with <>. This way:
< b > Bold < / b > gives Bold
It's pure HTML

that is one sweet robot. Looks like an actual figurine or something. I'm not so sure about the background though, that grainy look it has takes a bit away from the overall look up close though that robot sure is an eye catcher

That's phenomenal. I wish they'd make 3DSMax for mac, from what I can tell the renderers are all miles ahead of what Lightwave can push out in terms of realism and softness. The lighting and shiny surfaces are gorgeous, though I've never done HDRI. You achieved a really hard glazed ceramic look with a bit of grit to it so it doesn't look 'too' perfect. Beautiful.

That's absurd. LW has one of the best rendering engines around. Perhaps you just haven't seen many good LW renders...

Well, your stuff falls into the 'good' category, obviously. Stylistically and in terms of overall polish there's something decidedly 'different' about your approach though. Do you use HDRI or antialiasing or anything of the sort when you render?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
loth In reply to doktorsquidd [2004-04-05 03:21:22 +0000 UTC]
Well antialiasing is essential... I only turn that off for test renders. HDRI depends on the object... some don't need it, or suit it. A couple of my HDRI renders - [link] and [link]
My approach is going to be different, of course, because people use the programs differently. But if you were actually examine the specs of LW and 3DSM, LW is the more able program for still image renders.
