Description Heh, two lill' happy pokΓ©mons playing together -^_^-
And the mudkip looks like... well, me. It's not unusual that characters sometimes adapt features from the artist, I've done that un-attentionly before. And I keep getting just as suprised as the last time it happend

This is my comic aka childrens' book art style, the one I've worked the most with.
It's kind of ironic that I don't used it very often anylonger, and I feel that this is after all the one I'm best at using. I should work with it more often I guess. Not to mention it feels really good being back at the subject again. It reminds me why I'm so crazy about animated movies.

I saw a most teriffic one (it's possible that this is what triggerd me ) a few days ago called "La Gabbianella e il gatto" (The seagull and the cat? I dunno the english name, it's called "Lyllo and Zorba" in swedish). It's a *very* cute movie, with no 3D-effects, just plain, wonderful 2D. (I'm not too fond of mixing the two in animations. Okay, I really dislike it, it usually just look plain baaad imo).

This movie was really refreshing becuse, despite from a few not-too bad songs, it didn't apperd to be some attemt to mimic Disney. I wouldn't be too harsh if I said that I pretty much dispite Disney these days. Yes, they've made alot of good stuff but now they produce tons of, excuse my words, shit. With no heart at all, just for the money (Cinderella 2?! Just the title alone makes me sick!). Not to metion that they brought a bundel of wonderful titles by other animators, like swedish-speech versions of "Gnomes and Trolls" and "My neibour Totoro" and hidden them away from the Swedish childern. Just so they can show off their own stuff instead! The thing is that I'm pretty sure they done the same thing in other counties. No, it's will take alot of actions before they'll ever earn my respect again. And I love that Pixar at last is free from them. Okay, I'll be quiet now.

Wow, what an amazing and unique style! I love this picture (It's hard for me to picture a realistic mudkip, but you got it just right). I've always loved Pixar and Disney (although I had never heard of what Disney is doing, being an American) I must agree that Disney is getting pretty bad now. Alpha and Omega had the WORST animation and graphics. I love Pixar to death though. Especially How To Train Your Dragon.

Looks like you kept torchic's arms intact here, though this one looks very roostery. HOORAY FOR MUDKIP WITH GILLS! Mudkip reminds m of Eeyore for some reason. A very adorable duo. They look like a cute mysterious dungeon pair (I'm a mudkip in Dungeon. I have a charmander as a partner instead of a torchic though).

Hoooh this style is loveable, and I'd really wish to see more of this kind from you^^
I love the dinosaurish look given to Torchic, even I have never pictured it with little claws on the upper arms.
The only thing that I would have done differently in this picture is the background, I don't really like how it blends with the rest of the picture.
Oh, and about "La gabbianella e il gatto".. : [link]
(for the parody I used the original Spanish title of the book the cartoon was inspired from).
I really enjoied that movie, I'm happy to know they aired it in Sweden too

Hehe they're both so cute and they look so happy! You wouldn't think that a little fire bird and a little watery amphibianish creature would play together so nicely

Lovely picture! I love the thick black strokes and the delicate coloring, it looks sooo..... nice. Beautiful. Lovely.

I hate Disney. I hear they butchered one of Hayao Miyazaki's movies so he didn't let them release any of his others for years. Good for him, bad for me. ;_; Then they didn't give Castle in the Sky a half decent dub and skrewed the music, oh yeah, and the pathertic marketing for Spirited Away. *retches*

I like Pixar tho, especially the Incredibles, I think it's my favorite Pixar movie. ^^

Again, lovely drawing.

*tilts her head* It wasn't Disney who did the first dub of Laputa, as stated here- [link]
If Mononoke is the first movie you're refering to, I've seen both the sub and dub of it and I didn't find the dub to be horrible in any way. I agree that the Laputa dub was embaressingly bad (gah, the boy sounded like he was 40), but the sittuation with Spirited Away is more difficult.

The whole thing with that leads back to Mononoke. Stupid people didn't bother to look to find the content of it, they just saw "Disney" and "princess" and complained afterwards that it wasn't what they expected. So they were alot more timid when it came to Spirited Away- while it didn't have the violence of Mononoke, it did have some parts and imagery that were somewhat disturbing.

Sorry but you guys are totally wrong about the "Castle in the Sky" dub. Quite, quite wrong. Even if it is more boisterous than the original Japanese, I still say it's a damn excellent dub. Even if the leads sounded just a tad too old, the rest of the cast more than made up for it, and I felt they still did a fairly good job of recapturing the adventurous spirit of the original.

Furthermore, the older dub of LAPUTA is nowhere nearly as good as the few fans found out to be; not even close. The actors there are far worse than Disney's version, totally devoid of any enthusiasm and deadpan their way through, and the writing sounds painfully stilted and choppy. THIS is superior to Disney's version? Give me a break. I'd rather hear Luke Skywalker as the villain any day.

Velasa In reply to Turnajon [2009-05-27 00:09:55 +0000 UTC]

I never saw that original dub and only got five or so minutes into the Disney one before jumping over to the Japanese version, so I can't give too much feedback on them. I just didn't like the part I did hear much at all.

And Mark Hamil is awesome. I'm aquainted with him as the VA for a bad guy and I like it ^^

GoldeenHerself In reply to Velasa [2004-12-14 05:52:06 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there was the first dub of Laputa, which was actually pretty good (I have a ripped copy of it on VHS) but the special edition DVD they released last year (the one with all the "Big Name" actors) was... oh god... not good. I only ever watch it in Japanese now.

On to the butchered one, no, actually, I wasn't refering to Princess Mononoke (in fact, I think it has the best dub of all the Miyazaki films I've seen, even better than Spirited Away), I was refering to Warriors of the Wind, which was the American working title of a movie Miyazaki made based on his Graphic novel, Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. Basically they cut 20 minutes off of it and from what I hear, absolutely ruined the plot. This was back in the eighties, and was the reason non of Miyazaki's films got properly released in the US for years. ;_; (I have never seen this, but I've heard a lot from friends.)

Yes, Princess Mononoke is NOT for people wanting a Japanese version of Cinderella. >.< But the thing that irked me about Spirited Away was that it competed with Lilo and Stitch for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, and in all the months before hand it was like Disney was boosting up THEIR movie, and trying to cover up this absolutely brilliant import. Grrr.

Bleh, sorry to ramble, gotta go now. Toodles!

Ah, my apologies. I'd been trying to think of which film was mangled and came up with the wrong one. Although Nausicaa was attacked by a company named "New World Pictures", not Disney.

I don't mind the rammbling, I like long conversations ^^
