Description
Xatu are remarkeble birds. They can’t fly, and are usually be seen climbing trees. They have an remain of their ancestors, a grovyle-like pokémon, which are tiny, clawed, ”thumbs” upon their wings. These thumbs and the powerful feet turns xatu into an excellent climber. However, the short wings they still have left is used if the xatus happen to lose it’s grip and start to fall; the wings may not carry the bird for flight, but the wings can heavily slow down a fall.
In the tree, xatu hunt various bugs by peking off the bark of the trees with it’s long but also sturdy beak. This behavior has made xatus, and natus who feed the same way, classified as an pest amoung fruit farmers, as they harm the trees bark.
The colors of xatu is a great camfluage up in the trees, where their green color blend with the leafs and the other marks show up as shadow-like patterns.
Xatu has an strange way to sleep as well; they hang upside down from a branch, folds their wings over the head, and display the face-looking pattern upon their belly; [link] Its belived that the predator-like eyes of the pattern scare pokémon who eat xatus. Some local groups of xatus are known to display this pattern in a simular way when they get scared, this defence metod may be succesfull as xatus, due to their short legs and inability to fly, as they are an easy target for predators if the xatu get out of it’s tree.
